Advertorials Advanced new instrument enclosures
now with carry handles METCASE’s advanced new TECHNOMET instrument enclosures can now be ordered with handles for portable electronics applications.
The tilt/swivel carry handle bar is comfortable to hold and also doubles as a desk stand which can be indexed in 30o increments. The 150 mm high desktop models also feature recessed side handles as standard.
Applications for TECHNOMET include medical instruments, test and measurement, industrial control, peripherals, interfaces, switchboxes, communications and laboratory equipment.
METCASE engineered TECHNOMET to fine tolerances to replicate the high quality aesthetics and ergonomics usually found only in moulded plastic enclosures.
Diecast metal front and rear bezels fit flush in the case body. Front and rear snap-on trims conceal the fixing screws for the front panel and case. Access to components is fast and easy. TECHNOMET’s wraparound top cover slides over the base/chassis assembly.
TECHNOMET is available in eight standard sizes (75 x 225 x 200 mm to 150 x 350 x 275 mm). Each case offers two options for installing PCBs: four M3 mounting pillars in the base for a single PCB; accessory snap-in anti-vibration guides for multiple slide-in PCBs.
The removable rear panel is recessed to protect switches and connectors. The anodised front panel (accessory) is also recessed to protect displays and keypads. The base and rear panels have ventilation slots for cooling. All panels are fitted with M4 earthing pillars for electrical continuity. All cases are supplied with ABS non-slip case feet.

High bandwidth coaxial modules added to CombiTac connector system
To meet the ever increasing demand for greater bandwidth, Stäubli Electrical Connectors has introduced 6 GHz coaxial modules to its flexible CombiTac connector system. Suitable for a wide range of 50 ohm RG cable types, they are resistant to shock and vibration and rated for as many as 100 000 mating cycles.
Modules with SMA (SubMiniature version A) termination are suitable for frequencies up to 6 GHz, while with crimp termination the limit is 2.4 GHz. Two crimp versions are available, one for RG58 cables and one for RG316/U, RG174 and
RG188 cables. The SMA version is suitable for cable types RG58, RG316/U, RG174, RG188, RG196, RG213, RG223 and many more.
Both module types are designed for industrial, broadcasting, aerospace and defence applications that require long life connections with high resistance to shock and vibration. They are also suitable for rail applications as they meet rail standards for fire and smoke.
With their modular design, each individual crimp or SMA connector can be quickly and easily removed or inserted into the coaxial carrier without the use of tools or the need to disassemble the complete connector, thereby keeping maintenance time and costs to a minimum.
This flexibility makes it possible to make future adaptations or upgrades without incurring replacement costs. For example, it is possible to switch to other RG cable types with the same SMA CombiTac connector simply by changing over the SMA interface on the cable.
An interactive configuration tool on the dedicated CombiTac web site
www.combitac.com enables engineers to build modular assemblies online, explore the final product, review assembly dimensions and request a quotation.
Pasty thermal conductive material
To operate electronic semiconductors in a temperature range given by the manufacturer is essentially important for its functional reliability and lifetime. The thermotechnical contacting of the electronic component on the particular heat sink plays a decisive role for an efficient working thermal management.
Thermal interface materials, so called TIM, equipped with various technical parameters provide excellent solutions in terms of thermotechnical contacting. The thermal total resistance is composed by an addition of the single thermal transfer resistances along the thermal path which
Algorithm to implementation: combining MATLAB
and Simulink with PSpice to streamline PCB design Your electronic systems are becoming more complex - for too long, you've gone back and forth between electrical and mechanical simulation. In today’s design world, a designer cannot just rely upon the simulation and optimization of individual blocks and hope that these different blocks will work to design specifications when assembled together. A well- integrated powerful modeling and simulation environment would enable designers to identify and correct issues at the design stage.
With the integration of Cadence® PSpice® with MathWorks MATLAB and Simulink, you now
have a complete system-level simulation solution for PCB design and implementation. Learn how you can simulate your entire electromechanical system as one system, in one integrated environment.
The PSpice Systems option enables you to transfer PSpice analysis data into MATLAB to generate customized plots in MATLAB and to perform complex calculations with simulation data in PSpice environment using MATLAB functions.

congatec’s new COM Express Mini module with
Intel Apollo Lake processors Offers more than any credit card sized COM Express module before
congatec – a leading technology company for embedded computer modules, single board computers and embedded design and manufacturing services – has released the conga-MA5, the next generation of low- power modules for the industrial and extended temperature range in the credit card sized COM Express Mini form factor. The new COM Express Type 10 Computer- on-Modules are equipped with the latest Intel®
Atom™, Celeron® and Pentium®
processors (code name Apollo Lake) and impress with 30% more processing power
and 45% more graphics performance on a very small COM Express Mini module.
Target applications can be found wherever a small footprint matters and where the rich eco system of COM Express is key for engineers, as is the case for handheld and rugged mobile applications as well as stationary mini devices and IoT gateways. Mobile devices benefit from approximately 15% longer battery life while connected industrial devices benefit especially from the enhanced real-time capabilities. Impressive for all applications is the massively improved graphics performance that now also includes the support of 4k displays.

Rapid adds Pickering Electronics to its
Reed Relay range Rapid Electronics, a leading UK electronics distributor, has partnered with Pickering Electronics to become their first official distributor in the UK.
the heat flow has to overcome. The lower the figure of the thermal transfer resistance the better the thermal conduction and in sum the thermal total resistance.
Fischer Elektronik GmbH & Co. KG extends their extensive product portfolio of contact materials especially for the application scenarios of the thermal contacting by a fluid gel thermal conductive material with its name GEL S 18. The thermal conductive material GEL S 18 is a pasty, gel-like and fully hardening thermal conductive material in a two-component system. GEL S 18 is well-suited for a compensation respectively filling of small or big empty spaces in electronic devices such as the mounting of PCBs on heatsinks.
The viscoelastic paste has a very good construction flexibility connected with excellent adhesive properties. This allows an easy handling as well as a secure mounting of the components to be contacted.

“I am delighted to welcome Pickering to the Rapid relay portfolio”, said Richard Abbott, Product Manager of Electronic Components at Rapid. “Pickering are a company with a wealth of experience in the design and manufacture of quality engineered reed relays, consistently developing relay solutions for changing technologies, applications and PCB requirements.”
Pickering Electronics is a long-established manufacturer of Single-in-Line (SIL/SIP), Dual-in-Line (DIL/DIP), Through-Hole, Surface Mount and custom configuration reed relays in 1 Form A, 2 Form A, 1 Form B, 1 Form C and 2 Form C.
Users will have access to a wide variety of Pickering’s product ranges through Rapid Electronics online shop, including Pickering’s latest innovation – the Series 120 4mm2 TM Reed Relay range.
These Single Pole (1 Form A) relays attracted a lot of interest since being released at Semicon West due to its extremely small size of 4mm x 4mm, whilst still switching up to 1 Amp, 20 Watts.
These are the same reed switches as used in many other long-established Pickering Electronics ranges but are orientated vertically within the package, allowing this very high density.
