Q&A
has sold and what has not. What I think sells, is sometimes wrong… so the data is the key!
Q: Which footwear/fashion shows do you attend, and how do you rate them? Are you planning to attend any shows next year? A: I haven’t been to any kind of footwear show since the pandemic. But I will start to again to understand what other brands are out there. It’s always important to get out and about and see what’s new.
Q: How do you think the Government could best help footwear retailers at this difficult time, i.e., lower business rates, rents, VAT etc? A: Unfortunately, business rates in Tunbridge Wells are high and so is the cost of parking! I wish the Government and the local authority would reduce both! The footfall would increase, and other independents would come to Tunbridge Wells as well. We have so many empty shops here… it’s really quite sad. I have decorated the inside and outside of my shop with artificial flowers to ensure that we stands out when people are walking by!
Q: Do you have any plans for the year ahead? A: We have a playhouse under the stairs in the shop that’s full of toys and the children love it. The theme of the house changes through the seasons (beach hut, pirate ship, gingerbread house) making it extra fun for the kids to explore! It all helps to make children feel comfortable and it provides a great distraction for accompanying siblings. We have really gone out of our way to make the shopping experience as fun as we can, and we will continue to do so!
