Pikolinos is a family-run company that is growing globally without, it says, losing its way. Its focus is on quality, continuous improvement and it believes in making customers’ lives happier and more comfortable through its creations. “Continuous improvement is our philosophy, our work and life culture,” Tamara Boza, Area Manager UK, Benelux and France, tells Footwear Today in this exclusive interview. “It is the raison d’être of the Pikolinos team. It is inside every person, in every area, every day. “We combine this attitude with work and communication systems that allow us to measure ourselves, detect possibilities for improvement, think about how to do better, and establish plans for change and evolution that will take us one step closer to excellence, accompanying us to go one step further and be closer to our customers’ requirements.”

As part of this, sustainability is very important to the brand. Through certified audits it monitors the social and environmental sustainability of the entire supply chain, working towards sustainability in all its materials and manufacturing processes and placing value on raw materials, reducing waste and promoting re-usability.

Pikolinos has been recognised and awarded ISO certification for eco-design management and is proud to be part of the Leather Working Group (LWG) – which involves commitment to the search for sustainable treatments in tanning and finishing to guarantee environmental conservation.

“Being a member of the LWG involves a statement of intent and emphatic support for sustainability from Pikolinos,” Ms Boza goes on. “It’s our commitment to the search for sustainable treatments in tanning and finishing to guarantee environmental conservation.” LWG audits its members and scores them based on their results, to ensure its standards measure the level of achievement of excellence in the leather industry. These audits check a series of different parameters, including the chemicals used in tanning and finishing, water processes and consumption, emissions produced and waste management throughout the entire leather treatment process. Ms Boza adds: “We believe that a different world is possible because for us sustainability is our commitment to people, to society, and to the world.”
