INDUSTRY 4.0/IIoT

AE Aerospace is working with WM5G, nexGworx and technology partners BT and Ericsson to deploy a 5G

private network in the factory to explore and trial three 5G use cases that are transforming their operations

test new applications.

We work hard to deliver 5G enabled manufacturing use cases to show the possibilities. Visit our case study library: www. wm5g.org.uk/projects/manufacturing/. We have also developed a series of how- to guides aimed at supporting

manufacturers on their connectivity journey. Our first guide, ‘How-to decide if 5G is right for your organisation’, explores what 5G is, 5G’s capabilities, the benefits it can bring to manufacturing and what businesses can do with 5G beyond traditional connectivity methods including cable and Wi-Fi. In the second guide, we support manufacturers looking to develop their Industry 4.0 vision, identifying how businesses can map out their strategy and vision for digital connectivity.

You can read our series of how-to guides

here: https://www.wm5g.org.uk/projects/ manufacturing/. 5G technology will help build a region and country that is easily accessible to residents, visitors, and businesses as they establish

themselves as a thriving hub of the UK economy.

Across the transport sector, WM5G has supported a variety of organisations in undertaking 5G enabled trials to support the resurgence of the sector post- COVID. This includes connecting new technology via sensors or a private 5G network to ease traffic congestion and make public transport more attractive and accessible for residents.

5G is also a key component to helping citizens and public sector organisations better manage health by providing the required connectivity to deliver care and support away from the clinic, either in the community or at home. WM5G continues to work with the healthcare industry across the region to undertake 5G trials in remote monitoring and diagnostics, home delivery of endoscopy services and connected ambulances to improve at-scene and in- transit care.

Regardless of the sector, we recommend

undertaking an audit of current processes and technology as an initial step. This includes assessing your current challenges, identifying initial improvement points, evaluating your current digital maturity versus where you believe you need to be and setting clear goals to ensure you can map the progress you make to close this gap.
