The perfect drive for baggage handling systems


t the inter airport Europe 2017 trade show, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will showcase drive solutions for airport baggage logistics. The range of standardized decentralized drive units in three preferred sizes enables particularly simple and efficient project planning, engineering, commissioning, and maintenance. Comprising an IE4 motor, bevel gear and a field distribution system, NORD LogiDrive systems meet all typical performance requirements of baggage handling systems. IE4 motor efficiency (Super Premium Efficiency) and IES2 system efficiency ensure the drive units perform very economically, especially in partial load operation. As a result, they quickly pay for themselves and significantly reduce the total cost of ownership. The drives support all commercially available fieldbuses and Industrial Ethernet protocols. Power supply, key and direction switches are available to enable flexible operation on location. NORD provides dedicated assistance for plant manufacturers and operators to find drive solutions tailored to their needs. These results are enabled by the versatile system on chip (SoC) architecture in VC Z series embedded vision systems: the cameras feature a Xilinx Zynq SoC that comprises an 866 MHz dual-core ARM processor and an FPGA, which can carry out image processing tasks in parallel. Using Xilinx’ Vivado HLS tool, Vision Components programs the integrated circuit in C and C++, and can furthermore draw on its own extensive software library. Software-based FPGA programming has huge advantages. Users can test all programmed functions in advance in a simulation environment and debug the script, if necessary.

KW has launched STYLE-CASE, a new range of high-gloss ergonomic handheld enclosures for OEM electronics. STYLE-CASE is ideal for


remote controls – notably in medical and social care but also in many household, office and industrial applications. Its modern high-gloss finish is pleasant to touch, imparts a high quality user experience and is also easy to keep clean. The case is assembled using tamper-proof Torx screws – an important feature for medical and wellness applications. Its operating panel is recessed to accommodate a membrane keypad or product label.
