PRODUCTS INTERCONNECTION AUTONOMOUS DRIVING AND HIGH-SPEED COMMUNICATION T
he automotive industry is
focusing its efforts on developing solutions for autonomous driving and car-to-car communication. At the same time, the communications industry is moving towards 5G, and broadband networks are becoming ever faster. Large and complex volumes of data need to be transmitted securely in fractions of a second. Demanding applications such as
these require specially developed printed circuit board (PCB) and interconnection technologies. They not only serve as an interconnecting platform for the electronic components, but also provide functions such as antennas and filters. AT&S has developed PCBs
that deliver the required performance in the frequency range up to 80GHz. For example, these technologies form the basis
for high-performance radar components (long-range radar at 77/79GHz) in driver assistance systems – an essential building
block for autonomous driving. High-frequency (RF) laminates
are expected to see accelerating growth in the next few years, especially in vehicle radar applications and micro base stations. AT&S has evaluated materials and processes that are suited to these high-speed applications, primarily with the goal of minimising performance losses. RF signals reflect off the PCB
depending on various parameters, which means that the signal impedance changes. To prevent capacitive effects of this kind, all parameters have to be precisely defined, and implemented with maximum process reliability.

SEMI-RIGID/MICROWAVE CABLES & ASSEMBLIES
RS Components (RS) has extended its portfolio of radio-frequency/microwave equipment with a new range of semi-rigid RF/microwave cables and assemblies from Huber & Suhner that offer ultra-high speed of more than 26GHz. Key products in the range are the high-
quality flexible SucoFlex 126E coaxial cable assemblies, which are designed to provide enhanced optimal performance at up to 26.5GHz (depending on connector interface choice) with excellent return loss. The cables are ideal for applications that require electrical stability and low loss, such as in test and measurement and defence systems. They also feature a blue polyurethane (PUR) outer jacket, which offers excellent chemical and abrasion resistant properties and advanced protection in the most hostile environments including those with wide temperature ranges from –40 to 85°C. The high-grade assemblies are available in
HYBRID CONNECTOR OFFERS REAL-TIME AUTOMATION AND CONTROL
If you are looking for a particular connector then perhaps TE Connectivity (TE) can help? The company offers connectors for all types of electric motors, for use in all manner of applications. The portfolio covers solutions for industrial motors such as servo motors, linear motors, spindle motors and stepper motors. The use of decentralised drives also reduces demands on the
climate control system in the control cabinet (where the drives are traditionally located), providing further cost saving. Decentralised servo drives are increasingly networked via Fast
Ethernet, which offers the benefits of real-time control, but the nuisance of dual cabling for signal and power has largely remained. The Motorman hybrid connector provides this decentralised technology with a single cable for power, signal and data, and enables manufacturers to optimise production to align with Industry 4.0. Two Fast Ethernet sockets offer the full benefits of real-time
automation control while reducing cabling complexity and cost. TE’s Motorman hybrid connector is easy and safe to configure, and has simple diagnostic access through an easy-to-open side cover,
allowing diagnostics and maintenance without disconnecting any cables. Reliable communication up to Cat5e in harsh environments is possible. System costs are kept low due to the use of TE’s MCON interconnect system.

various lengths and connector types, including 500 and 1000mm lengths. The range now also includes the Minibend
50Ω SMA plug-to-plug cable assemblies. These are designed for applications requiring low-profile connections between RF modules within communication systems.

A new off-the-shelf USB charger has been released by Molex aimed at transportation applications and also manufacturer customised smart multimedia modules (CCP) for USB in-vehicle charging; both are now available in Europe at TTI, Inc.. The single off-the-shelf active USB module has a drop-in design, reducing tooling and engineering support, resulting in lower overall costs to the automotive manufacturer. Smart USB charging modules follow the profile of the device and provide the maximum power allowed by the manufacturer for fast charging.

ROBUST CONNECTORS FOR MINIATURISATION IN THE RAIL SECTOR This connector covers all the essential
The new Han 16 HPR EasyCon from Harting is a robust industrial connector that has been
designed for miniaturisation in the rail sector. The compact connector housing accommodates
up to four high-current contacts carrying up to 650 A each, providing sufficient power for vehicle-mounted equipment such as compressors, single-wheel drives and ventilation systems.

requirements for a rail vehicle interface. It combines a high transmission capacity in an extremely compact housing with the highest possible number of contacts for the available installation space – all in a robust and reliable design. The two-part housing provides plenty of space
for cables and is easy to install. The company also provides accessories for easy additional tension relief and cable shield connections. In addition to the high-current contacts, the
new connector can also be installed with six different Han-Modular modules – for power and signal transmission, for example. This range is the
only Harting housing in this size with a frame that provides enough room to accommodate so many modules. Users can save a quarter of installation space compared to the next connector size up with this option. The simple contact retention and housing
design enables rapid installation. The hood and mounting housing can be screwed together in a few quick and easy steps. The shielding remains visible to the operator throughout the installation process. The design of the shield connection is robust
and reliable so that the risk of attenuation loss is minimised.
