5-slot chassis For cmoss/sosa aligned solutions is introduced

An innovative MIL-rugged 3U OpenVPX 5-slot chassis enclosure has been launched by Curtiss- Wright’s Defense Solutions division. This shares a common mounting solution with the company’s popular PacStar 400-Series 4-Slot Smart Chassis for PacStar 400-Series Modules. These are widely used today in numerous U.S. Army deployments. With around 50,000

PacStar 400-Series Modules and Chassis currently fielded by

the US Department of Defence (DoD), the new PacStar VPX Smart Chassis enables system designers to rapidly and cost-effectively integrate CMOSS/SOSA aligned OpenVPX plug-in-cards via the same transportation and mounting solutions used by PacStar 400-Series tactical battlefield communications products. The PacStar VPX Smart Chassis is designed to fit into half the space claim of a

Standard A-Kit Vehicle Envelope (SAVE) enclosure, the Army’s standard approach for fielding communications systems at the tactical edge. This solution for easing the deployment of SOSA aligned and CMOSS based solutions provides the system designer with the flexibility to transition to CMOSS/SOSA hardware as needed. For example, a SAVE enclosure can today be populated with two individual 4-

slot PacStar 400-Series Smart Chassis hosting 400-Series network and communications modules, or the enclosure can be populated with a combination of one 4-slot PacStar 400-Series Smart Chassis and one 5-slot PacStar VPX Smart Chassis. Later, as CMOSS/SOSA VPX equivalents become more readily available, both halves of the SAVE enclosure can be populated with PacStar VPX Smart Chassis. Whether on current ground vehicles, air frames, or platforms of the future, this approach also enables each chassis in the SAVE enclosure to support separate networked security enclaves. Curtiss-Wright MOSA solutions, including CMOSS/SOSA aligned OpenVPX hardware,

can also be supported with PacStar IQ-Core Software, a comprehensive management software application designed for secure, tactical, and distributed network management.

protection solution for hyperspectral cameras

Specim hyperspectral cameras are mainly used for foreign object detection, plastics sorting and drug concentration analysis in food and pharmaceutical processes. However, until now, no suitable hygienically-designed protective enclosures were available that could be safely installed above the production lines. To help, two new models have been added to

autoVimation’s protective enclosure range for Specim FX10 and FX17 hyperspectral cameras. In addition to the standard enclosure

which features protection class IP66/IP67, a stainless-steel version in hygienic design and a temperature-controlled version are now also available. To help, the new camera enclosures are made of AISI 316L (V4A) stainless steel, which

withstands wet cleaning with aggressive cleaning agents. Gap-free enclosure surfaces and hygienic cable glands minimise the risk of contamination. Also available, thermoelectrically

temperature-controlled protective enclosures allow cameras with a permissible temperature range of 5˚C to 40˚C to be used in ambient temperatures from -20˚C to 70˚C. The system provides camera cooling by up to 25K below the ambient temperature, the company explains. The enclosures can also be used to stabilise

camera temperatures to increase measuring accuracy in critical applications.

enClosures help proteCt eleCtriCal ConneCtors

Industrial electrical connectors have consistently faced the challenge of being ‘smaller, faster, safer and easier’. The components and connectors are required to be small and compact while being waterproof and resistant to vibration in order to withstand rugged environments. Engineered for ease of assembly and with simplicity in mind,

Mencom’s new compact and fully metallic enclosure series are available in size 32.13 exclusively. Their hoods are designed in one piece for any wiring combination with a robust stainless- steel lever, and they can be provided as EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) enclosures. These are corrosion resistant thanks to the conductive layer of galvanic zinc plating on the surface. The company also offers new crimp inserts – CQM-08E and

CQF-08E – for these enclosures. The inserts incorporate PE (Protective Ground) plates specifically designed to be bonded to the surrounding metal enclosures, providing connectivity continuity between the PE contacts and the metal enclosure. The interior of the hoods and base have internal keys designed to match the inserts with the corresponding keyways to prevent the accidental and dangerous installation of the insert without the PE plates.
