Now available from BAUMER is the CombiLevel PLP70 level sensor. This, the company explains, is suitable for applications with high grade diversity and frequent media changes – such as those occurring in the beverage, brewing and other similar liquid handling processes. This innovative potentiometric sensor makes
continuous level measurement easier and more flexible with its ability to automatically adapt to a wide range of media, the company states. Typical applications include precise monitoring of process levels in feeding containers, storage and buffer tanks, and fast changing levels in filling lines. An important feature of the sensor is its ability
to measure very low minimum conductivity media. For example, previous sensors were able to
measure media with a conductivity starting at 50microsiemens/cm, whereas this new option will detect extremely low conducting media starting at 5microsiemens/cm. This pushes the conventional limits of these sensors and allows for use in media such as process water. The sensor ensures ultra-high precision
and repeatability even in the most demanding applications which involve low-conducting, pasty, adhering or foaming media, which are difficult to measure with less advanced sensors. It also provides short response times of less than 100 milliseconds and ultra-high precision. Of further benefit, its display enables easy
monitoring and control of the sensor. With information at a glance, this displays
sensor array for transportation applications
The Transportation Attitude Reference System (TARS) from Honeywell is a packaged sensor array designed to report vehicle angular rate, acceleration, and attitude data for demanding applications such as heavy duty and off-highway transportation. Available from Powell
Electronics, the TARS- IMU device measures important vehicle characteristics and enhances efficiency and productivity by reporting key data required to automate and monitor movements of vehicle systems and components. With two sensor models for different power levels, the sensor array accommodates 5V and 9V to 36V vehicle power systems. It has an
operating temperature range of -40˚C up to +85˚C and is IP67 and IP69K certified. The sensor fusion algorithm can be customised for specific vehicle applications via on-board firmware, allowing movement data to be filtered to minimise unwanted noise and vibrations for improved
position accuracy. Communication is transmitted using CAN J1939 connectivity, and the TARS-IMU component is calibrated on aerospace-
grade rate tables at the factory to provide enhanced calibration consistency between units.

New from SICK is its next-generation, high precision, OD2000 distance sensor. Stand-alone and compact, this provides a universal product family with minimal variants, while making configuration and parameterisation ‘plug and play’. IO-Link is standard, enabling the SICK OD2000 to offer highly-versatile machine integration possibilities, while providing for diagnostics and condition monitoring. With a large measuring range up to 1,200mm, as well as a
measuring frequency of up to 7.5kHz, the OD2000 is suitable for positioning and quality control tasks in automated production and assembly, including robotics. Using its high-precision triangulation measurement principle, the OD2000 achieves high repeatability and linearity, and can detect the smallest differences in height. There are five different measuring ranges between 25 and
1,200mm, and it can also solve challenging background suppression applications where precise distance differentiation or small hysteresis settings are required. Ready to use out of the box, this has an on-sensor OLED display which makes parameterisation
and adjustment quick and easy. Alternatively, set up via SICK’s SOPAS software has been enhanced with a new graphical user interface and a QUICK SET menu. Using IO-Link to access existing data makes it easy to replace a sensor. The OD2000 can also send both adjustable analog output (mA/V) and digital output signals; and smart point-to-point communication for Industry 4.0 integrations is enabled via the IO-Link interface. With IO-Link, the OD2000 can output process and diagnostic data for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Useful for most industrial applications, the price/performance advantages of the new SICK OD2000
family are expected to be especially welcomed by production teams, system integrators and machine builders working in electronics, automotive, metalworking production and consumer goods industries.

easily connect sensors to
fieldbus networks
Sensors can now be connected directly to PROFINET and EtherNet/IP fieldbus networks thanks to the new AL4xxx digital input modules from ifm electronic. For many applications, this greatly simplifies the network infrastructure, the company explains. Of further benefit, all modules in the range
feature integrated counter functionality which makes it easy to implement accurate and reliable high-speed counting systems that are unaffected by the cycle time of the PLC. There are currently eight versions available.
Users can choose from PROFINET or EtherNet/IP types with stainless connectors for use in the food industry or nickel-plated brass connectors for general industrial use. There are also StandardLine models with a single A-coded M12 power connector rated at 4A, or PerformanceLine models with two L-coded M12 power connectors each rated at 16A. The latter can also be daisy-chained to other modules in the same product family. All versions of the AL4xxx modules provide
16 inputs configured as two banks of eight. Standard M12 connections are used between the modules and the sensors, and these can be conveniently provided by using pre-terminated connecting cables which are available separately from ifm in lengths from 1m to 10m. Robust housings with ingress protection
ratings up to IP67 (IP67K for PerformanceLine types) mean that modules can be used even in demanding environments, including those where washdown cleaning is performed. The housings and port configurations are uniform with those of IO-Link input/output modules also from ifm electronic.
