SENSORS & SENSING SYSTEMS fUll-METal UlTRaSONIC SENSORS DEvElOPED

Non-contact ultrasonic distance measurement and level sensing can be very challenging in wet environments where there is aggressive chemical cleaning. To help, ifm is offering full-metal ultrasonic sensors in the new UIT300 range. All exposed surfaces of these

cylindrical M30 sensors, including the sensing face and the connector housing, are fabricated from high grade 316L stainless steel. In addition, the sensors offer a

sensing range of 250 to 2,500mm, with a 400 x 400mm target; and have an IO-Link interface which is used for configuration and to provide a continuous measurement of sensor-to-target distance with a resolution of 3mm. Also available via IO-Link is an echo quality indication, which can be used as an aid for optimising the installation of the sensor and to monitor its

accurate miniature temperature sensor

A compact yet fully digital, highly accurate and cost-efficient temperature sensor has been launched by Sensirion. Due to its

small size (1.5 × 1.5 × 0.5mm3 ), cost-efficiency

and low power consumption, the STS4x is well-suited to mass production and battery- driven designs. The digital I2

C interface

enables operation without external signal disturbance, while proven production processes guarantee the highest reliability in the field. On top of that, it benefits from the high-tech engineering of a wide range of sensor components thanks to Sensirion’s CMOSens technology. Currently, the series is represented by the STS40, which comes with a temperature accuracy of ∆T = ± 0.2˚C. In addition, the wide supply voltage range of

1.08 to 3.6V and low current consumption of 0.4µA for a typical average current, measured once per second, allows the series to be implemented into battery-driven designs. “Thanks to our many years of temperature

sensing expertise, we were able to develop our tiniest temperature sensor to date which, despite its size and cost-efficiency, offers top performance, outstanding accuracy and industry-leading lead times. We want to give our customers the opportunity to cost- efficiently produce high-quality devices without long waiting times,” said Matthias Scharfe, product manager humidity and temperature sensors at Sensirion.

performance while it is in service. The operating temperature range for all UIT300-series sensors is -10 to +60˚C and they have an ingress protection rating of up to IP69K. The UIT300 sensors

provide two conventional switching outputs which could be used, for example, to detect high and low liquid levels in a tank. The operating points for these outputs

can be freely programmed by the user. Other models in the range are the

UIT301 sensors, which have one switching output and one analogue 4-20mA output, and the UIT302 sensors with one switching output and one analogue 0-10V output.

COMPaCT OPTICal SENSORS laUNChED

Poor accuracy and reliability are issues faced when the sensing application involves shiny, irregular, reflective or ultra-black objects – such as car body parts or wafers with anti-reflective coatings. To help, Baumer is offering its new OT300 and OT500 optical sensors. The sensors offer a wide detection range

thanks to a line or spot beam time-of-flight measurement which, independent of the angle of installation, will even detect objects with a ‘demanding or irregular’ surface. They are designed to reliably detect objects within a sensing distance up to 2.6m for the OT500 sensor and up to 1.8m for the more compact OT300. The benefits of a compact design is supported

by 3D CAD data with integrated beam path which is aligned to the mounting holes with a component tolerance compensation (qTarget), plus teaching via qTeach and the standardised IO- Link interface with Smart Sensor Profile (DMSS).

PCB Piezotronics has released two upgraded triaxial ICP accelerometers with an increased frequency range that extends upper limits to 10,000Hz at 5% deviation. Models 354B04

and 354B05 are case isolated to help ensure measurement quality in the presence of electrical noise, and both sensors are TEDS IEEE 1451.4 enabled for easy tracking and record keeping.

DURablE aND RUGGED TRIaxIal ICP aCCElEROMETERS These are designed with durable and rugged

titanium housings to maintain electrical isolation even if the housing is scratched or damaged during normal use. The hermetic sealed housings are low outgassing by design for use in vacuum environments such as spacecraft testing. Both models have an

operating temperature range from -54 to +93˚C (-65 to +200˚F) and a shock overload limit of ±5,000g pk.

fully-sealed ip68 tilt sensor range

Positek has expanded its tilt sensor range with the new S613 series, which integrates the high-resolution inductive sensing technology in a fully sealed IP68-rated 10-bar submersible housing design with a large tilt angle measurement capability. With factory setting of the customer’s

tilt travel requirement between ±7.5˚ to ±80˚, the S613’s calibrated angle output has an independent linearity/hysteresis specification of less than ±0.25˚. Particularly suited to severe industrial and

marine-based applications such as crane & hoist, construction machinery or drilling platforms, this offers 10g shock and 40g vibration rating (IEC 68-2), and an operating temperature range of -20˚C to +85˚C. Positek’s ASIC control technology

interprets the absolute position of embedded inductive coils to provide a proportional, high-bandwidth, DC analogue output signal with essentially infinite resolution. According to the company, the sensors offer the simplicity of potentiometer-based versions while its non-contacting LVDT principle provides an exceptionally long life of MTBF 350,000 hrs at 40˚C Gf. The compact S613 features a robust

and fully sealed 35 x 44mm stainless steel housing. A wide choice of output options include 0.5 ... 4.5 V ratiometric from a 5V supply, several buffered DC voltage outputs and 2- or 3-wire, 4...20 mA current outputs from a nominal 24V DC input. Electrical connection is via a Pg7 gland and cable arrangement with customer specified length up to 50cm.
