Founded in 1877, the Böllhoff Group offers solutions for fastening and assembly technology, as well as logistics. Its products – including processing and riveting elements – are used in the automotive industry and also, with the corresponding suppliers, to some extent in the aerospace sector. With ‘RIVSET’, for example, the company offers a self-pierce riveting system
that creates mechanical, high strength connections of identical or combined materials. This used to be based on a hydraulic drive, but the hydraulic hoses had to be routed over the robot – not beneficial for maintenance teams and difficult when it came to locating faults within the hydraulics. Servo technology and the matching drive solutions from KEB Automation
proved to be much more practical and reliable. Jörg Münstermann, head of Software and Automation at Böllhoff Automation, said: “We use KEB inverters in our controls to drive servo motors that we need in our processing systems. Especially with the integration of servo technology at our company, which was new territory for us at the time, we were very well supported by KEB.” As an example, the company uses COMBIVERT F6 drive controllers from
KEB. These can also be installed in the control cabinet as a push-through variant. The advantage here is that heat can be emitted directly to the outside of the cabinet, resulting in reduced heat gain inside. This eliminates the need for an air conditioning unit, which leads to cost and space savings. According to the company, drive technology from KEB has proved very easy
to integrate into Böllhoff’s control architecture via the EtherCAT bus. KeB automation

Based on Oriental Motor’s BLV series, the new BLV-R series of BLDC motors and drivers offers improved positional feedback, DC voltage range, STO (safe torque off) ability, speed range and speed stability. It is also engineered to be smaller and to have lower power consumption. Designed for the automated guided vehicles (AGVs) market and other
new and emerging applications, this has parallel shaft or hollow shaft and gear ratios between 5:1 to 200:1 to deliver a wide range of output speed and torque options. Operation speed can be as low as 1r/min, and output power is 60W, 100W or 200-400W, depending on the variant and torque from 0.43 to 108Nm, depending on the motor and gearhead combination. The usable voltage range is 15VDC to 55VDC, and the speed control
range is 1:4000rpm, enabling a range of voltage changes. The wide input compensates for any voltage drops within the battery of, for example, an AGV, allowing it to continue operation without intervention. An integrated encoder provides improved positional feedback; and improved torque control down to 1rpm increases movement accuracy. An ATL function allows the motors to deliver up to 300% of their rated torque continuously (only limited by the thermal alarm cut-off). This allows equipment to negotiate slopes and ramps using more torque as and when needed. A proprietary ID Share Mode, developed by Oriental Motor, allows commands to be sent to multiple motors simultaneously for accurate movement and smooth operation even in confined areas.
