A cra beer business has chosen the COOLFIT 2.0 system, manufactured and supplied by GF Piping Systems, to carry coolant around its main building,
making full use of the system’s failsafe fusion welded joints and excellent insulaon.
The Fourpure Brewing Co moved to Bermondsey Trading Estate in 2013 and has seen beer sales soar, here and abroad. On a trip to America, the brothers who established Fourpure first saw GF’s COOL-FIT 2.0 pipework installed at a brewery and realised its benefits.
As a result, Fourpure’s technical team investigated the system’s physical characteristics – including composition, working temperature range, resistance to chemicals and installation method – before undergoing product training with one of GF’s Area Sales Manager. Fourpure decided to purchase the 63mm diameter pipe size with fittings and purchased a custom-built buffer vessel through George Fischer. These have now been installed to connect an external chiller unit with the large capacity stainless steel vessels where the beers are brewed.
GF’s COOL-FIT 2.0 range offers the speed and versatility of a three-in-one system for the
circulation of chilled water or other low temperature liquids. The COOL-FIT 2.0 pipe, insulation and jacket combination can carry saline, glycol or alcohol – as alternatives to pure water – at very low temperatures. This adaptability is matched by excellent energy conservation characteristics, as well as ease of installation and corrosion resistance: delivering ultimate reliability as customers worldwide have come to expect from GF Piping Systems.
Pipes range from 32-140mm diameter and are tested to 16 bar, while the installed weight is as little as one sixth that of metal alternatives. The benefits extend from 25% higher energy efficiency to being 50% faster to fit. They also offer excellent chemical resistance and reduced maintenance. At the core is a carrier pipe formed from industrial grade polyethylene (PE).

requirements were covered with the installation of two Mikrofill ‘Extreme’ 500-litre loading cylinders. The Extreme is a hot water generator that combines
the advantages of both an instantaneous hot water heater and a storage system, creating perfect harmony between a condensing boiler and a hot water cylinder.
Each stainless steel unvented loading cylinder can produce in excess of 2,500-litres per hour and 845 litres in a 10 minute peak period at 60C. In addition, a Mikrofill 1000/2 pressurisation package was installed to unvent the indirect LPHW circuits. Musical airs in London’s Universal Music
BAM Construction has constructed Four Pancras Square – a Grade A office building in London – on behalf of Argent LLP. The building utilises state-of- the-art technology to achieve a BREEAM outstanding rating across its 170,000sq ft over 10 floors. Apart from ground level retail units, the remainder is let to Universal Music.
As part of its BREEAM target, the building includes passive ventilation. Gilberts provided a bespoke special grille solution to meet the aesthetic and functional requirements.
Some 250m of 755mm and 680mm linear grilles have been incorporated externally around the building perimeter, with a similar quantity of 215mm grilles on the inside providing ventilation. The grilles have been bespoke-engineered to deliver multi-purpose usage: Gilberts has mitred the corners to acute, obtuse and right angle requirements to fit the form of the building. The grilles also feature special notches to fit the building structure and services, along with having specially
placed plates within the grilles with holes to accept CCTV, footfall and landlord cameras along with Wi-Fi bracketry to enable discreet housing. Gilberts’ Technical Director, Roy Jones, said: “We worked closely with BAM to develop solutions that helped them incorporate all the building services required, as seamlessly as possible. Uniquely, we have the capability, in-house, to design, manufacture, and test, our products, therefore we were able to design and fabricate a solution that integrated into the façade, and could further accommodate additional equipment with minimal visual evidence.”

Mikroflll plantroom upgrade at Leasowes High School
Leasowes High School in Halesowen is a hard-working and successful school where traditional values of fairness, discipline and respect underpin a culture of aspiration for all. Following a dilapidation survey by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council the decision was made to upgrade the inefficient LPHW and HWS equipment. The existing atmospheric heating boilers were replaced with six Ethos 130kW wall mounted condensing boilers. The new installation has a total modulation of 60 > 1 (780 > 13kW) ensuring the building’s heat load is accurately achieved at all times.

The HWS requirement for the kitchen and main block area was catered for by the installation of an Extreme 500-litre loading cylinder. Fed via an indirect primary circuit of 80/50C the loading cylinder optimises the boiler’s condensing mode and produces in excess of 2500 l/hr at 60C. In addition, a Mikrofill 1200/2 pressurisation
package unvented the existing LPHW circuit. The new system design was undertaken by in-house DMBC engineers within the Corporate Landlord Services Department and the installation was carried out by West Midlands’ contractor, TDR Mechanical Services Ltd. “The upgrade of the heating system is an integral part of the continuing improvements being made here at Leasowes High School. I would like to thank both Mikrofill Systems and Dudley Metropolitan Council for all their help during the design and installation phase, collectively this has made a huge difference to the school,” said Leasowes’ Site Manager, Rob Upton.
