A SINGLE MEASUREMENT SOLUTION FOR SMALLER TREATMENT WORKS


hen looking at the water and wastewater treatment system, there are various points of measurement that are important


and often crucial, to ensure that our sewerage works are running smoothly.


Pulsar Measurement was approached by a contractor to look at upgrading a small treatment works in the UK, with a requirement for the measurement and control of various pieces of plant equipment and processes around the works. The end user was looking to update some outdated monitoring equipment that required a complete upgrade and a centralised hub for the information display of on-site services. Various measurements are being made and controlled by multiple Pulsar Measurement systems, including the Ultra 4 for Open Channel Flow (OCF) measurement, and Ultra 5 controllers for screen control and mixed liquor pump control. All of these Pulsar Measurement systems are then centrally collated and displayed on an Ultimate Controller for a centralised display of measured applications. The Ultra 4 is the newest member of the Ultra family and is the first controller that enables you to combine level, volume, flow, and pump control measurement all in one convenient package. The Ultra 4 is also accredited with MCERT Class 1 classification for use on OCF measurement when combined with the dB3 transducer fitted with Double Sun Shields. This means that OCF measurements made with the Ultra 4 are certified


to the specifications made by MCERTS Class 1, with a guarantee of accurate results. The Ultra 5 is another sophisticated control unit from Pulsar Measurement and offers differential measurement capability, using two transducers with one installed upstream and one installed downstream of a screen or penstocks. An alarm or control signal is initiated as the difference between the level exceeds a user-defined limit to automatically operate the cleaning mechanism.


The Ultimate Controller is the most sophisticated controller in Pulsar Measurement’s product portfolio and offers intelligent pumping and


communication protocols to allow for simple, easy and straightforward site integration. This provides savings in, capital cost by combining HMI, PLC, RTU, and level control with no costly logic programming.


All of the Pulsar Measurement systems are performing well and being able to supply all of the measurement applications from one supplier whilst reducing multiple vendor integration has led to a shorter project start-up time.
