News I INTRODUCING THE INNOVATIVE SMARTMEASURE-AL
n an era where skilled manpower is becoming increasingly scarce, automation is the key to mainta- ining productivity and efficiency. Meet the SmartMeasure-AL, an advanced automated measu- rement system designed to operate seamlessly on Mitutoyo Measuring Machines. This innovative system revolutionises industrial measurement processes by delivering precision, reliability, and full automation. SmartMeasure-AL offers unpa- ralleled productivity by enabling continuous, fully automated measu- rement cycles. The system can run autonomously 24/7, enabling consis- tent output without human intervention. This not only increases efficiency but also minimises downtime, allowing factories to maintain high output levels even during labor shortages. Measurement results are sent directly to CNC machines, allowing for real- time tool correction and enhanced operational efficiency. With support for multiple pallets, the SmartMeasure AL streamlines workflows, enhances throughput, and significantly boosts overall factory productivity.
Unlike traditional measurement setups where variations in human operation can lead to inconsistencies, the SmartMeasure-AL ensures uniform performance. Configuring the system once allows it to perform repeated measurements in the exact same way, reducing errors and ensuring highly reli- able results. By eliminating the variability associated with manual measurements, manufacturers can achieve greater consistency and meet strict quality standards. Additionally, the system’s intuitive software allows operators to easily re-measure rejected parts without having to repeat entire sequences, saving time, minimising material waste, and improving production efficiency. Ease of use and smart connectivity make SmartMeasure-AL a game-c- hanger for industrial applications. The user-friendly Space4win software and graphical user interface (GUI) enable operators—even those without prior experience—to run the system effortlessly. The integration of RFID technology ensures automatic part program selection, reducing setup times and streamlining operations. Seam- less connectivity allows measurement
results to be sent to statistical software or external systems for further analysis, improving decision-making and quality control. With its flexible configuration, SmartMeasure- AL adapts to various manufacturing environments, making it an ideal solution for companies looking to enhance automation and efficiency. SmartMeasure-AL is the ultimate solution for industries facing manpower shortages, offering efficiency, precision, and adaptability across various sectors.
With its ability to run independently, reduce human error, and simplify operations, SmartMeasure-AL is set to redefine automated measurement stan- dards. Since it seamlessly integrates into existing workflows, it offers manufa- cturers a cost-effective way to increase accuracy, maximise uptime, and stay ahead in a competitive market.

C 6 DUNCAN COOPER CELEBRATES 35 YEARS AT CHELL INSTRUMENTS
hell Instruments are proudly celebrating a significant mile- stone as engineering manager, Duncan Cooper, marks 35 years with the gas measurement and control specialists.
Cooper began his career at the company as an electronics engineer in the service department, focusing on returns and maintenance for customers in the semiconductor sector.
After five years, Cooper worked his way up to engineering manager, a position which he has now held for three decades.
“From engineer to engineering manager, my 35 years at Chell Instruments have been fantastic. My time here has given me the opportunity to work on countless exciting projects - helping create new, unique sensors and instrumentation that make a difference across key sectors” says Cooper. With 35 years at the company, Cooper has experienced many changes throughout the company’s progression, as the business originated from almost homemade crafting in the 90s, to quality driven and state-of-the-art technology now. Cooper has also grown with the company,
welcoming fresh faces and even the 2020 stra- tegic acquisition by investment PLC, SDI Group. During this time, he gained hands-on experi- ence working with products such as thermal flow controllers, capacitance manometers and valves. As engineering manager, Cooper now has tech- nical oversight of the company’s product range, managing design, validation and technical support. “Every project has brought new challenges and opportunities to innovate, with a personal highlight for me being the design of test and calibration systems for use in the gas metering sector. Growing alongside Chell has always kept things fresh and I look forward to the future ahead!” concludes Cooper. Established in 1976, Chell have been the leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist measurement and control equipment designed to deliver highly-precise insights for key sectors. Over time, the company and their engineers have supported sectors where precision is critical, including aerospace, pharmaceuticals, energy and motorsport. Given their leading position in pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement and control, Chell have assembled a team of engineering experts who can help their products deliver precision and excellence.
“With three and a half decades as part of our team, we’re proud to have Duncan as a core part of Chell. Duncan has become a technical archive for gas measurement and control technologies - a mixed blessing for him but a huge asset for the team!” says Jamie Shanahan, director of Chell Instruments.
