How specifying advanced technology can bring substantial return on investment

Automated Packaging Systems announces its new series of bag packaging systems with advanced technology and ergonomic design for maximum productivity

system, so for organisations that use a number of temporary workers during peak times, the control units are user friendly and easy to use, requiring minimal training time for operators and they can keep their output high.

LOWER MAINTENANCE COSTS Automated Packaging Systems’ new Autobag 500 series features a simplified design with few moving parts, therefore reducing the lifetime maintenance cost and improving production uptime. When maximising existing investment,

maintenance requirements will inevitably increase. To redistribute that rate into the purchase of a new product can often be a more cost-effective option.

M

any businesses can be tempted to run cap-ex investments until the

very end of life, and whilst this can be viewed as maximising the current spend, businesses should explore how specifying new technology can bring more substantial long-term cost savings and a faster return on investment.

The new Autobag 500 and Autobag 550 baggers from Automated Packaging Systems are versatile machines with high-speed productivity, suitable for a wide range of packaging applications. The product of more than 50 years experience combined with the latest technology, the baggers are the most advanced to be brought to market from industry leaders Automated Packaging Systems.

SPEED OF PACKING With regards to the packing capabilities of a business, increasing the quantity of bags per minute is key. The Autobag 500 series offers easier and faster loading, even for bulky and hard-to-handle items. Featuring an innovative adjustable pass- through, this automatically opens the bags much wider than traditional systems to enable access, and with no light curtains and less guarding, it offers unrestricted access to the pre-opened bag without compromising operator safety. An improved, multi-position unwind with tension control provides faster

changeovers and an AutoThread function that reduces waste. The Autobag 500 is capable of bagging at 100 bags per minute into bags ranging in size from teabag to pillowcase.

INTEGRATED FEATURES

The Autobag 550 adds a fully integrated AutoLabel printer to the same basic design. Positioned directly over the next bag to be loaded, it eliminates the need for a separate print and label operation. This not only speeds up the process of packing, but also can provide a significant cost saving by reducing the amount of machinery required. Businesses that currently run a number of processes to produce a packed and labelled bag can immediately reduce the footprint of their machinery, in addition to increasing the number of bags packed per minute, arguably improving their bottom line.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY These new systems offer greater connectivity and integration flexibility as well as a faster rate of return on investment and lower cost of ownership. The user-friendly Android-based

control unit features an intuitive, graphic-based interface for simplified set-up and operation. Touch screen is a commonplace technology for consumer products, as is the Android operating

EVOLUTION With more than half a century’s experience in the packaging industry, Automated Packaging Systems understands the needs of its customers; knowing which features are critical to a customer’s success has been the motivation behind the development of the new Autobag 500 series. The series also includes a newly

designed bag sealer area which, combined with improved temperature control and optional seal-flatteners, ensures consistent, high-quality seals. The new machines feature multi-position unwind with tension control which simplifies changeovers and minimises downtime. With a reduced footprint, giving more

floor space for additional machinery or storage, a business can increase not only its productivity but reduce its maintenance, packing and storage costs. Features that have proved popular with customers have been kept, such as the seal flatteners and the bags themselves, but Automated Packaging Systems has reviewed the areas where there could be further development or improvement. The new Autobag 500 Series replaces

the flagship AB 180, the system on which the company has built its reputation for excellence and reliability.
