FEATURE LIFT TRUCKS
NARROW AISLE AGILITY… R
Even with wide loads
ecognising that working with wide and unusual loads should not compromise the manoeuvrability of a reach truck, Mitsubishi Forklift
Trucks has expanded its SENSiA range with the SENSiA EX. The two new models offer six multi-directional travel modes, which are
selectable (in an instant) using a keypad. This allows SENSiA EX to navigate in the tightest aisles, carrying loads up to 2,500kg, at heights of up to 10 metres. This is possible because of SENSiA EX’s all-wheel steering with 360-degree load wheels. They turn within the chassis profile, meaning loads – and the wheels themselves – are protected from damage.
MAXIMISING PRODUCTIVITY SENSiA EX’s two performance modes adapt the truck’s characteristics to the driver and the application. Professional mode allows more experienced drivers to maximise productivity, while EcoLogic mode gives new and temporary drivers natural handling and economic performance. SENSiA EX is also fitted with – as standard – the Mitsubishi Sensitive Drive System. This automatically tailors truck performance to the needs of individual drivers and loads – ensuring both stability and agility. To ensure maximum productivity at any height, SENSiA EX’s robust chassis features passive sway control. This dampens the elevated load motion that can occur when loads are handled at height. The models have powerful high-efficiency AC drive motors and hydraulic systems that deliver shift length between charges or battery changes. Repetitive strain injuries involving elbows are common among reach
truck operators. This armrest supports both the elbow and palm and minimises the movement required, therefore reducing risk. Its fingertip hydraulic controls keep unnecessary movement to a
minimum. Reach, lift, tilt, and spread commands are at the operator’s fingertips, allowing for maximum control. Safety is also paramount; SENSiA EX’s Clearview overhead guard maximises upward views while protecting operators from potential falling debris.

The importance of choosing the correct forklift attachment
Picking up a load may seem like a simple manoeuvre, yet if not done properly, damage to the goods - or worse still, personal injury - can occur. If your company has a requirement to deal with heavy items, taking shortcuts could expose you to a large amount of risk. In extreme cases a badly executed lift using incorrect tools and poor planning can result in a major incident. A recent incident reported by the Fork Lift Truck Association of a lift that was
inadequately managed, cost one concrete solutions company £300,000 in fines, over £10,000 in costs and, more alarmingly, injury to a member of personnel. This was due to a poorly planned unloading operation using a forklift truck. The
incident occurred whilst a worker was removing wooden struts that concrete blocks had been resting on, slipped off the forks and fell onto the worker. This resulted in serious crush injuries to one of his legs, which eventually had to be amputated from the shin down. Many businesses require at least one forklift on their premises to address loading and handling duties. However, some companies overlook the importance of selecting the correct forklift attachment, or a collection of attachments, which is paramount when you require a forklift to do more than just lift and move heavy objects. Many different forklift attachments are available to help provide safer handling, reduce product damage and increase efficiency and productivity in the workplace. Established for over 35 years, B&B Attachments is one of the leading fork lift truck attachment companies in the UK and Ireland. It prides itself on providing the most comprehensive range of attachments available for all industries. B&B also designs and manufactures bespoke, specialist attachments in-house for
customers with unique requirements. Mike Barton, the company’s managing director, comments: “Attachments can be a huge benefit to any business that has the requirement to move, lift, layer pick, split
loads or turn its products in a certain way. Not only do attachments improve safety but they also increase productivity by eliminating wasted time, space and man power during the material handling process.”
