Very recently I took my first Uber taxi journey – way behind everyone else as usual, I’ve resisted thus far out of loyalty to the traditional (yet comparatively expensive) London black cab and remained suspicious of this ‘sharing’ economy with no employees or products but that has regardless made billionaires of its Silicon Valley founders.

he experience was, however, really handy – not only was it fast and cheap, but also, in terms of transaction, seamless. Along with Airbnb, this is a kind of business model that’s on the rise. As is the growing proliferation of contactless payment terminals available – they make paying for things just too darn easy! Nevertheless, money, the acquiring and the spending of it, is changing. This issue looks at ways in which this change affects the franchise industry – would you consider, for instance, a crowdfunded investment or one that’s had backing from the fi rst new bank in over 100 years? Risky? Or simply the future – the irrefutable, irresistible way forward? In this special Money Issue, the founder of Metro Bank, Vernon Hill II, speaks to Franchisor News about plans to roll out his high-street banking philosophy in the UK. Elsewhere in these pages, there’s advice on your marketing fund and our main feature: an in-depth look at how you can help improve your investors’ chances of raising capital.

T A new feature for 2015 is the inclusion of the International Round Published by:

Table discussion, which took place at the British & International Franchise Exhibition at London Olympia this March. The hour’s conversation, with representatives from leading retail and lifestyle brands, raised many interesting points about the pros and cons of taking your business overseas. See what nuggets of wisdom that those who’ve gone before have to share on pages 40-42.
