FRANCHISEFOCUS INVESTMENT: FROM £28,73 5 Personal touch

Roisin Preston, the founder of Nurses UK about how it all started and plans for future growth

What’s the story behind Nurses UK? I always wanted to run my own business. My father and uncles were business owners and inspired me early on. I started working in healthcare recruitment, progressing from consultant to management and I noticed a strong demand for qualified nursing staff, something my employer wasn’t exploring. In 2015, I founded Nurses UK. Although

I had no clinical background, my mother, a nurse, gave me valuable guidance and introduced me to colleagues open to agency work. Our business is built on strong personal

relationships with both nurses and clients. Franchising allows us to grow nationally while maintaining that local personal touch, through a network of dedicated community-focussed owners who share our values and commitment to quality and understand their communities. For us, franchising was the obvious next step.

Why should healthcare professionals gain work through an agency? There’s a misconception that agency work is a fallback, the reality is, we face a national nursing shortage, plus nurses choose agency work for two main reasons: 1. Higher Pay: Agency nurses typically earn more per hour.

2. Flexibility: Many of Nurses UK’s nurses have unique circumstances – some have moved from overseas, while others balance family and personal commitments. Agency work gives them the freedom to shape their schedules around their lives, whether that means working school-time shifts, choosing night shifts, or taking extended breaks when needed. Nurses UK supports and encourages this flexibility, which is why so many nurses choose to remain with the agency long-term.

Describe a typical day at Nurses UK No two days are the same. We operate

24/7 because our clients don’t follow a 9-to-5 schedule. It’s fast-paced with challenges and opportunities. We suggest franchisees start with a serviced office with at least two full-time staff to share the on-call workload. Responsibilities are typically split, where One focuses on recruitment: advertising, interviewing, and background checks. The other leads business development: contacting potential clients, explaining our value.

As business grows, a third team

member can manage rostering and ensure staffing meets clients’ needs.

What qualities do you look for in a prospective franchisee? While you do not need a nursing background, we’re looking for people who: Align with our values Are committed to high standards Value and support their nurses

Have business or management experience (preferred but not essential) Have the finances to sustain the business as it grows

All franchisees will be supported by

our experienced Head Office team, every step for the way.. Franchisees receive an exclusive, carefully mapped territory, tailored to deliver strong growth potential. A comprehensive launch package and 21-day induction covers marketing, operations, compliance and systems, plus a preferred supplier list, connecting you to national care providers.

What’s Next for Nurses UK? Following the launch of our first franchise office in Kent in 2025, we proudly opened our second location in Newcastle in January 2026. This new office is owned and operated by a team of three partners – two experienced business owners and a registered nurse – combining strong commercial acumen with real frontline nursing experience. Together, the team brings an impressive

blend of skills spanning business development, operational management, and first-hand knowledge of the challenges within healthcare staffing. It’s this balance of expertise that makes the Nurses UK franchise model so powerful and positions our Newcastle team to make a meaningful impact on healthcare provision across the North East. As we continue to expand, we’re excited

to welcome more ambitious franchise partners who share our commitment to assisting clients by providing high-quality nursing staff across the UK. l
