Health and wellbeing
Exeter is leading Nurture-U (
nurtureuniversity.co.uk) – a UK Research & Innovation-funded project in collaboration with the Universities of Cardiff, Oxford, King’s College London, Newcastle, and Southampton. The study aims to understand how to better implement a ‘whole university approach’, where every aspect of the university works together to facilitate better wellbeing and mental health. Professor Ed Watkins, the Nurture-U chief investigator
from the University of Exeter says: “We're aiming to create the blueprint of best practice for student mental health at university. Rather than only focusing on wellbeing services that see students when they're struggling, we’re investigating how we can set up all aspects of the culture, systems, processes, curriculum, and environment at universities to promote wellbeing and to prevent poor mental health.” Nurture-U is also testing different approaches to
improve mental health in students. These include working with students to find ways to make campuses more compassionate and supportive, and mental health literacy courses for students to learn how to spot signs they or their peers might need help, where to get help and how to develop a healthy lifestyle and useful coping skills.
Make your voice heard The University of Kent is also working with its students
“Support and resources are available for your mental health and physical wellbeing, both at the start of your university journey and along every step of the way”
