B Regulatory body
The BFA F
Company founded: 1977
ounded in 1977, the British Franchise Association (BFA) is universally acknowledged as the hub of franchising
in the UK. The strapline ‘Discover your tomorrow with the BFA’ underlines its position as a source of information, education and accreditation for the entire UK franchising industry.
Who can become a member of the BFA? Membership is open to new and existing franchisors and their franchisees, as well as tiers for supplier and expert members: eg solicitors, accountants, franchise consultants etc.
Potential franchisees Alongside a multitude of educational articles on how to buy a franchise safely, the BFA offers potential franchisees a list of 300+ member’s businesses, all of whom have been audited to ensure they are ethical, sustainable and professional. Buying a franchise is one of the biggest purchases in most people’s lives and it’s the BFA’s main objective to make sure they buy safely, and from a reputable franchisor.
Potential franchisors Something the BFA never forgets is that every single members’ business started off as just one shop, offi ce or business. As such, the Association has, since 1977,3ws guided
hundreds of businesses through the journey to franchising, offering potential franchisors seminars, articles and sign posting to BFA- affi liated consultants, putting them in touch with the people who know what they are doing and who uphold ethics and standards for professional business format franchising.
Existing franchisors As soon as a franchisor makes it into the BFA (not everyone does, standards are extremely high), they step into another world of support. Education is one of the Association’s strongest features with The BFA Academy running accredited courses. Regular events focus on topics that franchisors fi nd invaluable, such as franchisee recruitment, marketing, fi nance and leadership. An annual conference is packed with talks from industry leaders and gives unrivalled opportunities to network with other franchisors. The ‘hub’ on
thebfa.org reveals a world of knowledge, advice and support to franchisors at all stages of their journey.
What else does the BFA do? Alongside supporting members, the BFA’s remit is to continuously raise the standards of ethical business format franchising and to educate the British public about franchising and the opportunities it affords to them.
