The company was founded in June 2016
by Huw Wardrope and Jono Bowman, two Aussie guys that grew tired of the fi nance industry and the bad chain coffees they were drinking. They decided to invest their time in something that they loved but were struggling to fi nd in London: great Aussie-style specialty coffee. Urban Baristas’ journey went from Bondi to Bounds Green with their fi rst site, and the aim of serving exceptional coffee to the London commuter. Fast forward to 2024, and Urban Baristas has embarked on expansion via franchising with the fi rst three locations opening in Tooting Bec, New Cross Gate, and
BFA status: Expanding
White City, with the brand now operating across more than 12 locations in the capital. Urban Baristas is all about speciality coffee, comfort, and laid-back vibes. The shops are simple and unpretentious – a place you can take a breather. Huw says: “Customers love our coffee and brunch culture, and we are passionate about spreading this lifestyle to our guests in our own laid-back way. Urban Baristas sustainably sources its coffee from farmers throughout the world which I regularly visit. This coffee is then locally roasted at our own roastery in Bethnal Green, we always ship freshly roasted beans to our cafés so that customers can experience outstanding coffee every time. Our famous House Espresso that is used in all our cafés is a Brazilian Single Origin which I personally selected and has notes of chocolate, honey, vanilla, and dulce de leche.” Through franchising, Urban Baristas aim
to deliver to a larger platform that will make their speciality product available to people throughout the UK and get everyone drinking great coffee. They say: “We’re looking to bring our take on speciality coffee culture to the UK with sunshine and a smile.”
