Care fra nchises

family member becoming a business partner might not
be the fi rst choice for some, but for Home Instead franchisees, Karen and Laura Clatworthy it has led to a dream team and a thriving business journey. So much so, that the mother- and-daughter duo are now running two successful Home Instead franchises. Karen and Laura joined Home
Laura and
Instead in 2017, establishing an offi ce in Newport, Cwmbran and Chepstow. It wasn’t long before they built a team of care professionals who made it possible for older people in the area with care needs to stay living at home. In 2022, the business reached its fi ve-year anniversary and celebrated delivering 5,000 hours of care a month. In just its third year, the company made it onto

homecare.co.uk’s list of the top 20 home care companies in Wales, and has achieved this award every year since.
Homecare.co.uk is a reviews website dubbed as ‘the TripAdvisor for home care’, and its top 20 regional lists are based on reviews given by the most important people: their clients and their families. Karen and Laura were inspired by other Home
Instead franchisees who have expanded via multi-unit acquisitions and, working with Home Instead, invested in another franchise offi ce. A neighbouring territory, Monmouthshire, was available. The pair saw it as an ideal opportunity to grow their business and bring Home Instead’s care to a new county. Working as a duo has worked out well. Laura runs the
Monmouthshire franchise offi ce, while Karen continues to manage Newport. Doing it a second time means being able to apply the learning points from the fi rst Home Instead business venture. Being a multi-unit franchise owner means being able
to share best practice. What works well for one offi ce, whether that’s care professional recruitment, marketing or training, can be shared with the other. And employees reap the benefi ts too. Various care
professionals working for the Newport offi ce were able to begin working for the Monmouthshire offi ce, if that suited their needs and was more convenient for them. Karen says: “Running a care company means not

only supporting older people, but their families too. That’s one reason why it feels natural to run a business with my daughter. We’re a close family, with personal experiences of receiving care, so we know how important it is to know that your loved one is being looked after by a safe pair of hands.” Laura adds: “It’s been a busy few years building
the Newport offi ce up to the successful business it is now, but that has only encouraged us to do it again! Running the Monmouthshire offi ce with prior Home Instead experience means that you can combine your management team and replicate ways of working and best practice. It’s our goal to make it just as successful as our fi rst franchise venture.”
