Spotlight: Home Instead T OP INVES TMENT OPP OR TUNITIES S HO W C A S E SP TLIGHT

With his Home Instead business, fra nchisee Gra ham’s caring journey has just begun!

G

raham Stevenson, owner of Home Instead Livingston, launched his home care business in August 2020.

Despite starting a business in the midst of a pandemic, Graham has got off to a great start, establishing a client base and building up his caring team signifi cantly over the past 12 months, now employing 22 caregivers and three key players.

Family inspiration Inspired by both of his grandmothers, Graham was attracted to the Home Instead mission to ‘change the face of ageing’. Graham says: "Sadly, due to Alzheimer's, one of my grandmothers needed to go into a care home. Unfortunately whilst she was there she deteriorated, and we realised that wherever possible – older people want to and should remain in their own homes for as long as possible, as this is where they really want to be." “My other grandmother is still fi ercely

independent at 95 and has been really resistant to allowing caregivers to visit her, and especially to the thought of a care home. Independence is important and knowing they can still get about on their own is key to living life. Home Instead allows this, offering vital support whilst helping clients to remain independent in their own homes. It is a model older people are receptive to, and helps to make a positive difference to their lives.”

development plan. With the various lockdown periods they were always on hand to provide up-to-date guidance on restrictions and PPE, helping us to keep our clients safe throughout a diffi cult time.” Refl ecting on his achievements

throughout his fi rst year, Graham said: “The biggest success has been recruiting an amazing team who share our mission and values. Seeing the difference that they make to the lives of our clients every day and their positive involvement in the community makes me incredibly proud of what we have achieved.”

 Graham Stevenson

worked in multiple roles in medical sales and technology, where he saw fi rst-hand the importance of supporting older people within their own homes, particularly after hospitalisation. At just 30 years of age Graham joined

Home Instead as one of their younger franchisees, but was excited to launch his business and become his own boss. Graham says: “I wanted a more

rewarding role where I could really feel like I was making a difference, and found the perfect combination in Home Instead, as I was attracted to the fl exibility and freedom that franchising offered – it gives you a real opportunity to grow a large business. “Having never run a business before,

the franchise support provided by national offi ce has been invaluable. From help with recruiting a care manager and caregivers, to building up a business

"I wanted a more rewarding role where I was making a diff erence, and found the perf ect combination in Home Instead"

Looking to the future Home Instead Livingston added to the ever-growing Home Instead franchise network in Scotland, with 10 new franchise offi ces launching across the country in the past fi ve years. With a great peer support network between offi ces, Home Instead franchisees in Scotland help each other to grow and network, and achieve success in their communities. Graham comments: “Setting up a

new business during the pandemic, particularly one that is so people- and relationship-focused, was always going to be challenging, but I’m so glad we took the plunge. "The environment meant that we

had to develop new ways of marketing and networking to build our client base, including launching charity campaigns. Community initiatives really helped us to connect with and support local people, groups and organisations during a time when meeting in person wasn’t possible. “Looking forward, I want to continue

growing the business. This time next year we’d like to have grown our client base and caregiver numbers threefold. As society begins to open up again, we want to become more heavily involved in local community groups and activities that help to support older people.” 
