A Prokil franchisee in her own words
Joanne Foster is Prokil franchisee for Epsom. The mum-of-two spent 10 years in the police force followed by self employement as a dog groomer. Seeking higher earning potential, Joanne started to research franchising and this year invested in her Prokil franchise business.
What appealed to you about franchising, and with Prokil? Before joining Prokil – Damp and Timber Specialists I had been a dog groomer (sole trader) working from home for four years whilst two of my three children completed their GCSEs. I had been a police officer for 10 years prior to that. I looked into franchising as I wanted to start a limited company and be part of a progressing company with much higher earning potential.
What appealed about Prokil? I knew someone who was already a Prokil franchise owner and I was impressed with the feedback I was hearing regarding the training, support, quantity and quality of leads. I also liked the idea of taking on a franchise that required professional training and certification which would limit potential competition.
What happened next? How did you get on board and what training was provided? I visited the Prokil head office in Bournemouth and met with Prokil owner Carlo Marsango and franchise manager Alex Marsango to discuss franchise options, territories and earning potential. I then had various
discussions with Alex who helped me a great deal with my business plan. I’m currently in the process of training, which is a mixture of onsite surveys, with the head office team and other franchisees, alongside individual learning.
The global pandemic struck soon after didn't it? How do you feel you've benefited from being part of a franchise in these circumstances? I was about to start my training as the global pandemic hit the UK, with lockdown stopping most businesses from trading. Instead I got stuck into learning the theory side of surveying. The benefit of being a part
of a franchise is that I have had continued support and advice from head office and was not alone. The Prokil team paused on-site training initially so they could implement additional
health and safety requirements but it didn’t take long to get back to the practical training which has now resumed.
What are your future plans and would you recommend franchising (and with Prokil) to others? I can see a great future with Prokil and I plan to maximise my territories to their fullest potential, with the possibility to purchase further territories locally. My end goal is to secure a profitable business for my family’s future which I believe Prokil will provide. I would definitely recommend the Prokil franchise system to anyone seriously considering a franchise business venture.
