hahriffa Jari would like you to think she has gained her role as a hugely respected design consultant through some


good fortune, and God’s will. And while this may be true, when you dig a little deeper it quickly becomes apparent that a huge part of her extraordinary rise to the top must be attributed to her talent, integrity and innate fighting spirit. Tis is a woman who has known true adversity. Who has had to battle for her place, against the odds. From humble beginnings – she was born into a family of fishermen and farmers in a village near Malacca, Malaysia – she pursued a diploma in mechanical drafting at the government college, before doing a further diploma, studying the oil and gas sector. “I learned how to draw heavy metal components for every kind of construction. I’m a tomboy,” she laughs. While that may be true, as the eldest child, young Shah was also responsible for bringing up her four siblings. “Tat was on my shoulders. I also had to care for my mom [who later became paralyzed],” she says. When she did have spare
