Annual charity day ready to support a new partner

Bedford Blues are proud to be teaming up with Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger at the upcoming Ladies Day celebrations against Caldy on Saturday March 23, as chosen charity partner for the special day. Over the past fi ve years, the club’s loyal #BluesFamily have raised

more than £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through generous donations, the always-exciting post-match shirt auction, raffl es and much more. Before that, Blues had donated to Breast Cancer Care UK and Cancer Research. T is year, it’s anticipated the total Ladies Day fundraising eff orts

will surpass £100,000. T e meeting with Caldy will be the fi fteenth edition of Ladies Day

at Goldington Road, the event having fi rst taken place in October 2008 against Sedgley Park, with the ground turning into an odyssey of pink as an annual event. Chief Operating Offi cer, Gareth Alred, said: “Ladies Day is one

of the stand-out dates in our calendar and we are delighted to this year welcome Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice as our charity partners. We were one of the fi rst rugby clubs to run such an event 15 years ago and it has gone from strength to strength since. “I must thank Macmillan Cancer Support, their tremendous

volunteers and staff for the past fi ve years working together. To have raised over £50,000 for the charity is extremely humbling, thank you to our loyal #BluesFamily for their generosity. “It is important to us at Bedford Blues to support local causes,

therefore we felt the time was right to partner with the team at Sue Ryder. It’s always a special occasion on Ladies Day and we expect no diff erent this year.” Nick Burr, Senior Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder St John’s

Hospice, said: “We are honoured that Bedford Blues have chosen Sue Ryder as their charity partner, at the prestigious annual Ladies Day. “Fundraising partnerships from local companies, like Bedford

Blues, are more vital than ever with rising levels of need for palliative care and bereavement support. T e money raised through the event will go directly to Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice to help the charity continue to be there when it matters.” Tickets for the match are available through the Bedford Blues website, with a special discounted ticket for all ladies at £15.
