A couple of things to consider, going forward, when you are
looking at a pickup for your new starter in the trades: fi rstly, your pickup needs to have a payload of over one tonne, this applies to DCPUs, so when you check the payload make sure you check the model you are going for. T e Ford Ranger Limited has a payload of one tonne (1,000kg) but the top-of-the-range Ford Raptor doesn’t, therefore its classed as a car. And secondly, the optional extras are key, you get a shiny new
truck and give it to your new area manager to visit sites, but you are a tight arse and have added nothing to the bed (big open bit at the back). Doris says she can take something to site for someone and adds the toolbox to the back and sets off . You didn’t get a load liner so the toolbox skids around making the paint look like a piece of art by your favourite child on your newly painted wall. Doris then pulls up to the lights outside the site and someone walks past the bed and just nicks the toolkit anyway, as its open. Load liner and roller cover are a must in our humble opinion, as without them the back is next to useless for anything that doesn’t weigh enough to stop it blowing away or getting lifted! And why not add a tow bar while you’re at it, so it actually looks like you’re not just dodging the tax? So, in short, these amazing vehicles, for now, are still a game
changer for companies that need that rugged vehicle that has the driving quality of a car. Let’s be fair, that’s what we have them for. T e Ranger (the most popular pickup) is a Mondeo on steroids, and should be seriously thought about for users that fi t into multiple industries in the building trade.
