Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL) is a not-for- profit organization, providing retirement and senior care services for more than 90 years. Headquartered in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, the organization provides comprehensive services and accommodations to more than 6,000 seniors in 30 locations across the mid- Atlantic region of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and Delaware. The resident engagement efforts are led by Alicia Fenstermacher, Vice President of Purposeful Living, a veteran in the industry, passionate about improving the quality of life of elders and a leader that seeks to empower her team, so they focus on what they love: helping residents find purpose every day.
As PSL and the rest of the country was emerging from the pandemic in the Summer of 2021, successful vaccination programs allowed senior living communities the option to increase socialization and improve programming opportunities. Although staffing turnover started to
become troublesome, the organization seized the opportunity to improve their resident engagement efforts by focusing on three key measurable outcomes: increasing quantity and quality of programming, enabling interdisciplinary work and improving resident satisfaction.
Under Alicia’s leadership, PSL reevaluated its service and enabled new tools and processes to help deliver on its promise of delivering the best resident experience and quality of life. This enabled staff members to offer research-based engagement opportunities that are fun and person- centered while augmenting team members efforts by improving efficiencies and enabling interdisciplinary work so they can meaningfully engage residents every day.
