senior living communities already. She is leaving no stone unturned to bring workers back to the industry.

“I really enjoy nurturing people to find their greater good,” Guffee explains. She loves finding out about what young people are passionate about and using that as a starting point to their career. Whether the interest is in cooking or caregiving, Jodi will find a place for people to feel right at home and explore their “greater good”.

I really enjoy nurturing people to find their greater good!

Her philosophy with onboarding is all about relationship-building. As employees are being onboarded, Jodi wants to understand them on a deeper level, so she implements the F.O.R.D. Principle, which she picked up from Greg Bell’s book, “Water the Bamboo.” The F.O.R.D. acronym stands for:

• Family • Occupation • Recreation • Dreams

“If you get to know someone’s F.O.R.D., you’ll be able to relate to them as who they are,” Guffee says. What is your family like? What do you hope to be doing in five years? What is life like outside of work? What would be your dream situation? These are the types of questions that get asked throughout the onboarding process.

She likes going the extra mile. As each department head at Radiant Senior Living learns a new employee’s F.O.R.D., they create a unique gift for that employee and send it to their home. “The reason why we send it to the home is because we want their family to also be vested in what they’re doing,” Guffee remarks, “because they’re probably spending more hours at work than they are at home.”

Understanding your people makes a world of difference. That’s why she adds transparency to the process that’s typically done without much human connection.
