Jodi Guffee is changing the way we think about hiring and onboarding. When the devastation of the pandemic turned the industry on its head, the seniors housing workforce was shaken up. During the pandemic, roughly 40% of female staff members left the industry, which forced Guffee and her leadership team to adjust their recruiting and onboarding strategy.
She recognized the challenge in recruiting employees, especially young people, to the seniors housing industry. Her approach to recruiting is a bit different than what you might find at most companies. Her process involves using the “speed to lead” concept.

“How are we getting to them? How are we exciting them about senior housing? Because it’s not all that exciting,” Guffee says. “So we got very organic.” Guffee and her team went into high school job fairs to speak with potential candidates about seniors housing; she even connected with young adults that had residents in their senior living communities already.
