Patient admits assaulting Calderstones staff member


A 24-year-old Calderstones patient bit a member of staff who with colleagues was trying to remove a ligature from around hisneck. Blackburn magistrates heard that the bite to the man’s upper body left an open wound and he had to have tetanus injection and a course of antibiotics.

And in a victim impact statement the staff member told of his real concerns about the possibility of catching diseases passed on through bodily fluids Daryll Kilvington, of Calderstones, pleaded guilty to assault­ ing Alexander Sumner causing him actual bodily harm. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation and a £180 criminal courtcharge. Gareth Price, defending, said his client had been resident at Calderstones for about six years. “He was clearly trying to self harm and staff had to inter­ vene,” said Mr Price. “They all ended up on the floor and he accepts he bit someone although at the time he didn’t know who.”

Sudden death of Sabdenman(53)


Police were called to a property in Thorn Street, Sabden, after neighbours reported concerns that a 53- year-old male had not been seen for a number of days. A sudden death was later con­ firmed and a post mortem is being undertaken.
