Along with other service clubs, the Rotary Club of Clitheroe helps with Clit- heroe’s Community Bonfire which offers a safe secure


celebration of November 5th.


On a weekly basis members provide transport for people


with disabilities and help with sponsorship for young


peoplelookingto extend their horizons. At their weekly meetings the club has speakers from


jdl types of charities keep­ ing members informed of the needs in many different areas of medicine and types


oftreatment. They also re­ spond to international cri­


ses with the public knowing that all the funds members


collect goes to the charity


with any costs borne by the members. The club is also keen to sup­ port cultural heritage and helps Clitheroe residents organising stroke awareness days and raising funds for


the local hospice or Rose- mere.


The club also supports young people through its young chef, young writer,


young photographer and young musician competi­ tions, togetherwithitspub- lic speaking competition. History makers, Clitheroe is the first club in the Cum- bria/Lancashire district to have introduced a corpo­ rate member to the club, The Paper Cup Company has four members able to attend meetings representing the company. The club’s motto is “Service before Self”, which mem­ bers try to apply to all they do in the community. A courageous Clitheroe teenager jumped 11,000 feet in a skydive to raise mon­ ey for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Georgia Burns took part in the North West Skydive alongwithnineotherpar- ticipants, aUjumpingfor the young people’s cancer charity. The skydive took place at Lancaster’s Black Knights Parachute Centre, with

Georgianominatingthe charity as her chosen cause ~ after she started a new fit­ ness class incorporating trampolining as a way of working out. Boogie Bounce classes have proved a massive success and Georgia has gone onto achieve above and beyond her target fundraising, with the Teenage Cancer Trust becoming very close to her heart. Having so far raised


more thah £1,400, the final figure continues to rise. Georgia commented, “Thank you to the Teenage Cancer Trust for giving me this great opportunity. I wish I had upgraded to the 15,000ftjump as it was to­ tally awesome. With all the support I’vehad, I’ve man­ aged to raise a phenomenal amountofmoneyandlknow‘ it’s all going to an absolutely fantastic cause.”
