Oakey started the Roskirk Stages well, consistently set ting top five stage times to sit fourth overall coming up to the halfway point. However, the crew caught

a slower car in stage four and, trying to make up for the valu able seconds lost, got just one wheel on the grass after a fast chicane which caused them to spin off,hit a wall and lose an

other 20 seconds trying to re- • start the car and turn around. Tommi, 15, said: “We were

fighting for a podium place but the spin dropped us down to ninth overall. At least now I have learnt to try and stay chilled on stage I” The pair recovered to fin

Nerves begin to

jangle at the top

With only three weeks to go in the Dorothy South- worth Indoor Bowling League at Clitheroe’s Roefield Leisure Centre, nerves are beginning to

jangleatthetopofthe table.

There were two massive games in the latest round of fixtures, and the out comes could have a de termining effect on who finishes as champions. Firstly, champions

Waddington Red were beaten by neighbours The All Blacks, but the final points score of 4-2 could have been a maximum defeat had mat two, with Kevin Ryder, John Ham mond and George Rush- ton, got home by a single shot against Don East- wood, Clive Bater and Ed die Houghton. This was after Jeff Cowling, David Openshaw and Peter Cun- liffe earned a comfortable win on mat one against Waddington’s Ian Jackson, Ken Barker and Jim Tier ney 23-14. The Tigers’ game with

Sabden was one of the clos est in the short history of the league with The Tigers getting home on both mats, by just a single shot (18-17) on mat one, and two shots (16-14) on mat two, and so taking the aggregate by threeshots, thus recording a maximum 6-0 points vic tory. This now puts Tigers - in prime position to take the title as they are now on ly two points behind cham pions Waddington Red but have a game in hand. Hurst Green and Wad

dington Blue posted max imum wins and The All Blacks completed a suc cessful week by recording a 6-0 victory over Clitheroe White.

Longridge pulled off a

4-2 victory over Read and The Wandprers overcame

.Clitheroe Blue 5-1 after a titanic struggle.

[history. [ Duncan,AcademyFoundation I Phase Lead Coach for the Un der 5-iis at Stanley, was part of the party of 38 players and six staff who became the first group from the club to travel to Europe, as they spent three

I days training at the Camps des \ Loges-the training ground of Paris St Germain. Here they were coached

by PSG academy staff before going on to play Palaiseau, a feeder club for PSG, where players such as Thierry Hen ry and Jonathan Zebina played

as juniors. The Accrington teams,

from under u s to 13s, record ed two wins and a draw. Duncan said: “Having worked at PSG in 2011, 1

what a great experience it would be for the boys to train at the outstanding facilities at Camps des Loges, so when the opportunity came up, it wasn’t

one to be missed. “We left Paris with an un

beaten start to our European adventures which also includ ed our first international hat trick, and the experience the-

boys gained was invaluable. Stanley have to think out

side the box with their youth development, as he explained: “Because we need to produce from the academy it’s impor tant we offer something dif ferent to the numerous clubs we are surrounded by in the Northwest. “We are the lowest ranked

professional club in the North West but there’s no way we are the lowest academy.

“We are going to clubs with 10 times our budget and com

peting. “Some of the big clubs do

international trips but I’m unaware of any others taking their players abroad, and cer tainly not to train with a top

club like PSG. “It’s things like this that we

are offering to players that will set us apart and help our re cruitment of better players.* He added: “Putting Ac

crington Stanley alongside Paris St Germain was massive for not only for the academy, but for the club, as without us producing players for the first team or selling players on to raise finances, like we did with Connor Mahoney to Blackburn, it will be difficult for the club to survive. “The PSG staff were sur

SABDEN WARM UP FOR SEMI-FINAL IN STYLE Five for Fallon in romp

Sabden.................... .......... 9 Great Harwood Rovers.....1 Great Harwood ’ s prepa

ration for their cup semi final against the Treacle Miners of Sabden were dealt a serious blow as they were comprehensively played off the park at a muddy Nutter Barn. After a sluggish start, Sab den got a hold of the game after about 10 minutes, and never really loosened the grip. It took until the 28th minute for the first goal to arrive, David Fallon combining with Charlie Collinge to poke the ball home. Five minutes later, Fallon

■ doubled the lead-again in the right place to steer home a Dean Foxall pass. Just before the break, Fallon completed his

hat-trick, latching onto goalkeeperTomDiggins'

clearance, and going on a mazy rim before steering

theballhome. Within a minute of the restart, Fallon turned pro- vider to Foxall, whose close range shot found the net. Two minutes later, Fallon netted his fourth, follow- inga defence-splittingpass from Ryan Graves.. Star-man Fallon then

@

played in Adam Fuller who > skilfully guided his shot into the corner of the net. On the hour, Paul Astin scored his' 29th goal of the season, running onto a pass from Will Child. Child him- self scored on 72 minutes, and Fallon scored a scruffy ninth after 75 minutes, following a goalmouth scramble, before Harwood scoredaneatconsolation. _

Disappointment for Green as they lose crucial away game

Burscough Richmond...........2

Hurst Green..................... -.....0 Hurst Green travelled to West Lancashire to face old rivals Burscough Richmond in a game neither side could af ford to lose. Both sides cancelled each

other out in a first half of few chances. The home side did create some pressure which brought a couple of openings but the half ended 0-0. In the second half, the

game cpntinued in a similar vein with nothing to separate

the two sides. Leading marksman Alan

Coar replaced Walker on 65 minutes and almost imme-

diately was played through, but took his shot early but the keeper made a great block and recovered to save the fol

low up. Five minutes later the

Green were one down. Tipton slid in to make a challenge and

got the ball prior to making contact with the Richmond forward, however, the referee from 50 yards away pointed to

the spot. Galliers dispatched the

penaltyanditwasabodyblow when on 80 minutes Bailey

slotted home the second. The Green now have to rely

on other results if they are to clinch second place.

Mort at the treble to fire reserves into cup quarter-finals

Hurst Green Reserves........6

LythamTown Reserves.......1 Hurst Green got back to winning ways following last week’s disappointing result at Coppull United. The home side enjjoyed

most of the possession in the first half, without threaten ing the visitors’ goal on too many occasions. However Green did take

theleadthroughyoung strik er Danny Mort on 30 min utes. The visitors from the Fylde Coast had a few rea sonable opportunities, but were unable to find a way past Joyce in the home goal. The second half saw

Green play some excellent football and run out convinc ing victors. Mort went onto complete

his hat-trick, with his third goal a wonderful 40-yard ef fort. The talented Sam Whit- takerscored twice, finishing expertly. The final goal came from 18-year-old substitute Conor Mallett with a superb left-foot strike following a mazy run. Lytham managed a con

solation goal but this didn’t take the gloss of a very en couraging performance. Green will now play at

Hesketh Bankin the quarter finals on Easter Saturday.

Leaders are given a scare by youths after early goals

Hurst Green Youth.............2

Ramsbottom United...........5 Hurst Green Youth gave league leaders Ramsbottom United-a mighty scare, al though defensive errors at set plays once again proved costly. The Green took the lead

on 20 minutes as an excel lent George Young deliv ery found the head of Ollie Shipston six yards out, and though his powerful header produced a fine diving save, Dec Barnes was on hand to smash home the rebound. After half an hour the

Green deservedly increased their lead as telepathic play

between Shipston and Tom q Reede sent the latter scamp ering clear, and he rifled home a right foot shot. Unfortunately, within the

first five minutes of the sec- 0 ond half, the Green conced- n ed two goals from corners. They rallied, and Ship- *

ston was upended outside the area by the Ramsbottom A k

keeper, who was only yellow carded.. • Within moments Green @

conceded again from an other set play. The visitors grabbed a fourth on 70 min utes following a short corner^ and with 10 minutes remain ing, added a fifth.
