WBO World title defence after being forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout at Winter Gardens. TheCommonwealthcham-

pionwaslookingtoaddtowins against Liam Cameron and Luke Markham on Saturday’s show in Blackpool, present ed by VIP Promotions, but an eye infection has dashed such hopes.
“I’m not fighting now,” he
said. “I went to the doctor with an eye infection and he told me that there was no chance I would be able to fight. It’s got a bit better and I really want to fight but I’ve been warned against it. There’s nothing I can do about it and I’m gutted." The weekend marks the re-
. turn of former English cham pion Shayne Singleton follow ing his defeat to Matchroom’s Sam Eggington at the Ice Arena in Hull nine months ago. Blackpool’s Matt Askin and
RP Davies, Lancaster’s Tomi Tatham, Cumbria’s Rick Skel ton, Liverpool’s Tommy Cams, Bury’s Ali Zahid, Manches ter’s Charlie Schofield, Glos- sop’s Adam Hague, and ex-pro footballer turned boxer Matt Mainwaring will also feature on the bill. “I’m still going to the show,”
said Blackledge. “It’s Shayne Singleton’s comeback and he’s looking really sharp. I’ve watched him sparring with Jack Flatley arid he seems to have improved a lot. I’m look ing forward to watching his fight. “I’ve been sparring with
Tomi Tatham since getting back from Germany and he’s on the card too. He’s a power ful fighter, a bit of a banger, and he’s also improving. Then there’s my old sparring part ner Matty Askin. I think they will all win their fights on the night.” There’s no doubt that 2015
has been the super-middle- weight’s most successful year to date yet it has also been his most inactive. Blackledge made six ap
pearances in 2011 and 2012, five in 2013 and four last year but

Shayne Singleton (right) will make his comeback at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens
has only had a couple ofoutings this term. But the 25-year-old is de
termined to make the most of his contract under Frank War ren’s BoxNation banner and is ready to be pushed to the limit by coach Alex Matvienko after the New Year. “I’ll jus t have to make
amends next year and keep busy,” he said. “I’ve had a rel atively inactive year but I’ve learnt a lot and improved with two 12-round contests against top 10 fighters in the British rankings. It’sjust a shame that I have to end the year like this. “I’ll be staying busy in the
gym because I want around five or six fights next year. I’m grateful for everything I’ve achieved this year but I want to be busier. “I never thought any of this
would happen but I’m real ly happy to have won a Com monwealth title and defended it against a top opponent.” Blackledge added: “I’m still
young and there’s plenty ahead for me. This is the best year of my career so far but I’m only 25 so I’ve got lots of fights ahead.
I’ve had 24 fights and some people are retiring when they reach that so I’m very fortu nate. “I’m just getting started so
there’s loads more to come. You don’t last forever in this sport but I’ve got years ahead of me.” Manchester’s Flanagan,
with a perfect record from 29 contests which has brought 12 stoppages, faces Merseysider Derry Matthews on February 13th at the Echo Arena in Liv erpool. Blackledge defended his
strap on the same evening that “Turbo”, retained his crown againstDiegoMagdalenoatthe Manchester Arenain October. And now he wants to be a part of that journey once more. “I want to get on a big show
in February on the undercard of Flanagan’s world title fight,” Blackledge said. “The last bill I was on was huge and this one could be even bigger. “The December 19th show
just came at the wrong time for me so I’m even more deter mined to get on the next one. I’ll enjoy some restover Christ- masnow.”
