Connor ends year on a high!


Clitheroe climber Connor Byrne ended 2013 on a high note.


Not only was he re-selected for the Junior GB Climbing team, for the fourth year, he ended the year placed 10th overall in Europe as a Youth A, and the 17-year-old now moves up an age group and into the Juniors. He has Edso been selected to represent Great


Britain in the Senior lead team for 2014. As a result of winning the British Lead


Climbing Championship for Youth A, and then coming third in the Senior competition the fol­ lowing day at the start of November, Connor was delighted and stunned to be invited onto the British Senior Lead Climbing team. This is a remarkable achievement as the two


other men on the team are professional climb­ ers and at least four years his senior. Connor still has two more years as a Junior


climber. His first event as a Senior team member was


the Senior World Cup in Kranj, Slovenia. Here he was competing against 60 climb­

was not last and I had climbed well. “It was incredible to climb with the world’s


best and has really given me something to aim for in my training.


“I am looking forward to representing GB in


some more Senior World Cup events in 2014, and continuing as a member of the Junior team. “I also have to sit my A Levels. Connor would like to thank his sponsors,
