TALK TO THOUSANDS OF LOCAL CANDIDATES, VIA PRINT, WEB & MOBILE
What sort of starting salary and package can you expect? The basic starting salary
of an airfield firefighter is around £22,500 although you do get shift allowances on top ofthat.
What sort of personal skills make someone best suited to a career as an airfield firefighter?
You have to be a team player
and someone who is able to work alongside other people ■ on a day-to-day basis and in challenging environments, but also you need to be able to think practically and logically to solve the tasks which face you every day.
What sort of career prospects and structure is there? '
. Having started as a
firefighter, there are opportunities to progress to a crew manager where you are. in charge of the team working ■' a single machine, and then a watch manager where you are in charge of a bigger group. Because we are a fairly small
group!, we have a senior fire ■ officer after that but in the regular fire and rescue service there are opportunities to move in to'more senior roles. What kind of job satisfaction can you expect from a career? Seeing someone who you
have helped train on certain -skills group into the role and
- progress up through the ranks is a very satisfying part of the
job, and you can do that at any level. But/especially in the
regular fire and rescue service, helping people at the most difficult moments of their life and getting them through it, which is a good feeling. In 50 words sell your profession If you are looking for a job
which is challenging and where you will experience an amazing camaraderie, a career as a firefighter is one for you. You will work alongside
like-minded people who will • support you through thick and thin, it is a real family atmosphere.
