still extremely busy, from De cember 24th to the 26th the number of emergency calls
' received was 5% less and the number of incidents attended 4% less than for the same pe riod in 2012.
This year, the Trust re
ceived 9,918 emergency calls over the three-day period compared to 10,476 calls the previous year. Of those 9,918 emergency^calls, the Trust responded to 8,195 incidents with the most common com plaint being falls. ■ Derek Cartwright, Direc

Village pride at new-Took hall
Villagersat Dunsop Bridge have thanked the organisa tions which helped pay for im provements attheir hall.
Work started exactly a year ago at the village hall with funding from Ribble Valley . Borough Council, the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstand ing Natural Beauty and Lanca shire County Council. • The new-look hall was
recently unveiled to residents at a “Winter Warmer” open af ternoon. . “Without the generosity
and support of the funders we would not have been able to carry out the improvements that have made such a differ ence to our village hall and a sincere thanks must go to all of them,” said Sheila Paton, sec retary of Dunsop Bridge Vil lage Hall Committee. “We also want to thank to

Work in progress on the disabled access ramp at the village hall (s). The project began with
insulating a sloped ceiling that runs the fiill length of the hall. A n ew k i tch e n was
installed and new flooring put down in the kitchen and com mittee room. All areas were decorated afterwards. The committee then
secured £15,000 o f fund ing from the Lancashire Environmental Fund and a further £4,000 from AONB for a new disabled toilet/wet room/baby change room. The ladies and gents toi lets were totally refurbished
and two new storage areas built, single glazed windows were double glazed, new double glazed disabled en trances'were installed at the front and rear of the hall, plus lambs woolinsulationwasput in any roof spaces not already
. insulated. The county council funded a disabled ramp and rails for the new entrance at the rear of the hall. Sheila Paton added: “We
still have some jobs that we would like to carry out, but these will be for the coming year.”
Naturalists’ busy schedule
Clitheroe Naturalists’ Society has a busy programme of illu s tra ted lectures and other events lined up for the first three months of 2014. It starts tonight, January
9th, when Janet and Malcolm Edmonds will present a lec ture entitled “Corsica: The Beautiful Isle”. It takes place in the Mutual Rooms at the St Mary’s Centre in Church Street, Clitheroe, beginning at 7-30 pm.
The next lecture is on
January 23rd,. when David Aldred presents “A Natu ral History Variety”. Then on February 6th Anne and Gordon Sharp will take their audience on “Travels withSpellbound”.OnFebruary 20th Stephen Halliwell will
visit “St Kilda - the Lonely- Isles”, this lecture held in the Institute at the St Mary’s Centre (lower, entrance off Paradise Lane).
On-March 6th, Gordon
Yates will look at “Hebridean Raptors and Hill Country Birds” and on March 20th the society’s annual meal will be held, with details yet to be- arranged. Finally, on April3rd Peter Smith’s talk will look at “Nature Through the Sea sons”. . Everyone is welcome to
go along to meetings, with admission£2 for members and £3 for non-members.
