RIBBLE VALLEY LADIES’ DARTS AS

representative on the council for the past three years. Ray is looking fonvard to working with his lady captain Janette Dowdy, and like all
new captains is praying for good weather. He encourages people to visit the course - green fees can be paid at the Bayley
Arms or Shireburn Hotel, Hurst Green - or even consider becoming a member. He believes that Stonyhurst Park is a jewel in the crown of the Ribble Valley, and
in value-for-money terms can’t be beaten - a lovely, picturesque, yet challenging, course.
Sunday’s competition for the men was the Three Clubs and a Putter, full handi cap strokeplay where second place was decided on a card play-off and went to Andy
Townsend with
a.score of 83-15-68. The winner, with a score of 89-22-67 was Dave Procter. Ray is pictured preparing to drive into office. A260311/4 • CLITHERGE ladies played in a five-club competition on Thursday. Division One winner was Jean Holt with 35 points, three clear of Marilyn Fletcher,

• WHAT a weekend for Mytton Fold Golf Club’s captain John Beriy and club sec retary Dave Clegg! Not content with winning Samrday’s Irish Doubles competition,
they went on to win the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes against Pleasington the following day. With positively balmy weather greeting Mytton Fold’s golfers over the weekend,
a strong turnout was assured for the Irish Doubles greensome format event. In the excellent playing conditions it was a surprise that only one pairing broke par, with Berry and Clegg coming in with a net 71.
Just one stroke behind came John Whittaker and playing partner Ian Tliomson,
fresh from his successful running of the Los Angeles marathon. Ian, running for the Parkinson’s Disease Charity, successfully completed a veiy challenging race, which
was held in appallingly wet and windy conditions, with over 200 competitors suffering from hypothermia. The battle for third had to be decided in the clubhouse when John Welch and Phil
Ryan, and Frank Tunstall and Phil Hammond tied with net 73s. The resulting card playoff awarded the former pairing with the final podium position. With just one two on the day, the pairing of Dave Halsall and Peter Main made off
^season with:captain Bill Banks bisecting the fairway and opening the competition ;:With. a superb, drive. The conditions proved to be very challenging for all concerned (as the stiff breeze made clubbing and yardages very difficult to gauge. New member John Parker carded a sublime 91-24-67 to take the spoils on the day, given the test ing conditions. The divisional winners were as follows; Division 1, Trevor Thomber 80-8-72; runner-up Colin Elliot. 81-8-73 after a card play-off. Division 2 , Andrew
