man of the council’s community- committee, said: “The market will

. currently only accept plastic bot tles, but no other plastic contain ers, such as pots, trays and carrier bags. While most plastic containers now carry a recycling symbol; there are no local markets or sorting fa cilities for them. . “Collection calendars delivered

to each home in Ribble Valley con tain information on what can and cannot be placed in blue wheelie bins, but we have noticed an in creasing amount of non-rccyclable material being placed in them. ■ “If this continues, the markets

will reject.the loads and, as well as losing income, the material will have to be disposed of entirely in landfill.” -

■ Many residents are still not

aware that aerosols and cleaned foil, including foil containers, can be placed in blue wheelie bins. Coun. Thompson added: “Rib

ble Valley Borough Council is committed to continually improv ing recycling and we would like to thank residents for their co-opcra- tion in this matter.”

‘Dangerous' sex offender to stay in jail

A DANGEROUS Ciitheroe pervert who was jailed for abusing a teenage girl and hoarding child pom will re main behind bars indefinitely after losing an appeal against his sentence today. _Glen Wayne Yates (39) was caught

with what were described by the pros ecution as some of the most shocking images of child abuse on his computer equipment when police raided his home in 2007. In September, 2009, he was sentenced

to imprisonment for public protection at Preston Crown Court after admitting child porn offences and sexual activity with a child. . Still in prison, he appealed against

the potentially lifelong sentence, but had his challenge rejected by top judges. Lord Justice Stanley Bumton, Mr Justice ’ Stadlen and Judge Anthony Morris QC. Lord Justice Burnton said the crown

court judge had been entitled to find that Yates, formerly of Hayhurst Street, was a dangerous offender and a risk to chil dren. ’ -

out when police raided his home and, took away a large amount of computer and other electronic media equipment. < Some of the indecent images round on the equipment was of the most shocking

He told how Yates had been caught

kind, involving very serious child abuse by adult men. - -

-1 But it soOn emerged that Yates’s sick

offending had gone beyond looking at child pornography and had actually in cluded two offences against a girl. Sentencing him, the crown court judge

agreed with the views of a probation of ficer, who concluded that Yates should be locked up until he could convince the Parole Board he has changed his ways. Challenging that decision, lawyers

told the judges that it had not been un til he reached the point that he could be assessed for release that Yates realised lie could appeal. It was wrong for him to have an open-ended sentence, the judges were told, and he should now be given a

- term from which he could automatically be released.

' -'7 ; 7 .. But' Lord Justice Stanley Burnton said

there was no justification for extending the time normally allowed for offenders' 5' to put forward their appeals.

' “The'judge did have justification for

making the finding of dangerousness that he did,” the appeal judge continued. “This is not a case which cries out for

some rectification.” The decision means Yates, who has al

ready served his minimum term, will re main behind bars until the Parole Board is satisfied he is no longer dangerous.
