SOME 120 years of history were on show to the public when Child Action North West - the charity first founded as Black- bum Orphanage in Wilpshire - opened its doors to the public to launch an exciting programme of heritage events and activi ties. - Fund-raising manager Harriet Roberts
came up with the idea after a phenomenal response to the Heritage Day held in Sep- tember. She said: “In four hours we were visited
by just.over 1,000 people, which demon strated the enormous public interest in this well-known local building. “There are many people still living lo
cally who were either staff, ex-residents, school friends or evenneighbours who opened their doors and hearts to children, generally cared for them and basically took them under their wing.”
At November’s' open day, visitors had ■ -
the chance to look round the building and meet the charity’s archivist and historian,
All proceeds went to the charity, which continues to work with local children and

young people in need. ' On Friday, December 16th, there will be
a special founders’ day Christmas concert at Salesbury Church, performed by the Blackburn People’s Choir.
The event is open to everybody and the . ;
organisers hope to attract ex-residents, staff and friends of the orphans with a view to a Iarcer reunion being staged next vear.
phone scam
POLICE are warning Ribble Valley residents to be on their guard and to avoid being taken in by a telephone scam that could be costly and upsetting. ■ The warning has been issued by PC Justin Brown, of Whalley, af ter several residents reported re ceiving phone calls from someone purporting to be from Microsoft. - He explained: “The caller claims
that your computer systems are corrupt and the software on your computer needs updating. They- then ask for remote access to your computer and hack your bank de tails or charge you for services that have not been carried out or you are not going to receive.” He added: “It is important peo
ple treat any cold callers claiming to be from Microsoft as fictitious and should put the phone down
immediately or politely say no. , Never give your bank details to
;; an unknown caller and never give an unknown caller access to your computer. Unfortunately, unsus pecting residents have been the victim of this scam.” If you have been the victim of a
' bogus call, please call the police on 01200 443344 or the free and confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
