STAFF from Speesavers in Burnley challenged passers- by to see if their eyesight was fit for the road - and discov ered 5% were under par. The eye specialistsTquiz
was part of a National Drive Safe campaign. They had a stall in Charter Walk Shop ping Centre with a mini- ' sight test and asked drivers to check if they could see to the legally-required distance of a licence plate 20m away. • Five of the 100 drivers who took part failed to see to the required distance and were encouraged to see their op tician as soon as possible to have their vision corrected. Store director Mr David
Cleasby said: “Many of our existing customers came up to the stall to see if they could see to the legal requirement. The staff also had a chance to answer questions about eye health and, in particular, we were able to encourage one lady, whose mother had glaucoma, to have an annual checkup. “And, as it was also Child

3 A BURNLEY woman’s career has gone from strength to
strength after eight years with Training 2000. Jasmine Pearce-Jones (25), a senior manager at Burnley-based
Allied Healthcare, secured her first job at Bell Garth Nursing Home when she was i 7 before embarking on a health and social care appren-^ ticeship. Following a promotion
to.senior carer. Jasmine progressed onto an NVQ Level 3 health and social care apprenticeship and then achieved Training 2000’s Learner of the Year award. Jasmine, who has now completed a N'VQ Level 4 leadership and
management in care services award, said: “1 couldn’t be any happier with the career path and training decisions that I made. The care team and advisors at Training 2000 have really helped me to get where I am today, and my apprenticeship was a great stepping stone to help me demonstrate my enthusiasm and ability.” Ann Rolfe, health and social care advisor at Training 2000, said: ‘T
have worked with Jasmine throughout the eight years she has been involved with Training 2000 and witnessed first-hand the time, effort and commitment she has put into her training. Her achievement is a reflection of her willingness to learn and passion to improve her per formance.”
