THREE employees from Clitheroe Light Engi neering have completed a 62-mile walk - and set a course record. . On Saturday the trio of Stephen McGlynn, Paul Harrison and Graham Meloy finished the Ribbie

utes setting a new course record and raising more than £800 for the Sue Ry-'
marathon walk at 7 a.m. on Saturday, finishing at 4-45 a.m. the following morning. All three would like to
express their thanks to Stephen’s wife Julie who supported them through every checkpoint along with way ensuring they had the equipment and morale to continue. The lads are now look
ing forward to the 2011 event.

A MUSIC teacher from Whal ley is retiriiig after 37 years of teaching th e cello at Stony- hurst College.
i Mr Laurence Wood has taught hundreds of young musicians at the Ribbie Valley school over the years and has worked for four headmasters. His wife Maureen also taught
maths at Stonyhurst and his daughter Alex, who is head chor ister of Blackburn Cathedral girls’ choir, attended St Mary’s Hall,
i Mr Wood played with the Halle iOrchestra for 34 years under the direction of some of the world’s greatest conductors, including Daniel Baremboim, Bernard Haitink and Sir Mark Elder. “It would be, hard to imagine
such a varied experience with any other orchestra,” said Mr Wood. , “I ’ve performed with Clau
dio Arrau,'Damc Janet Baker and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, as well as playing jazz with Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Lane, and have travelled all over the world, from Australia to the Hollywood Bowl.”i L; Mr Wood, who trained at the Royal Northern College of Music, said: “My teaching philosophy is based on friendship. “You have to encourage them
