Davies shines at the Fold
S
WINTER has come to an end - at least as far as Mytton Fold Golf Club is concerned. In the final round of the Winter
Singles, i t was a win for John Parkinson with a 65-13-52 on the shortened course. It was also a confirmation of the
success of the Handicap Commit tee, as John was the 11th different winner in the 11 weeks of the competition. Mick Bryan (66-13-53) followed
closely on John’s heels, with Gary Ashton (70-17-53) only missing out on the runners-up slot following a card play-off. The final Winter Singles title was
taken by Garry-Davies, who, despite missing the final round, managed to hold onto his slender lead to win vsdth 45 points. Philip Hammond failed to
capitalise on Garry’s absence and closed his account with 43 points. Mick Kelbie took third over^ with 35 points. In the Winter Pairs, the final
weekend knockout competition was won by David Halsall and Peter Main with 39 points, two points ahead of Wayne Ivinson and John Welch. In the Ladies’ Winter Singles
knockout competition, it was a win for Judith Kay, who beat Maureen Board in the final. In the Ladies’ Doubles, Linda
Clegg and Jean Davies were the season’s winners.
It was a long but successful day
for captain-elect John Berry and Allison N u tta ll in the mixed doubles. Due to a snow-interrupted winter season, the semi-final and final were played on the same day,
with John and Allison beating Bernard and Judith Kay 2 and 1 to take overall honours. Just to reinforce that summer
is on its way, Mytton Fold start their season with a bang with the Captain’s Drive In on Saturday, closely followed by the Lady Captain’s Drive In the following day.
Gisburn crowned the champions
GISBURN were crowned Hynd- burn and Ribble Valley Schools’ Gymnastics champions at Mount Carmel High School - and now go through to compete in the Lancashire County Final at Hyndburn Sports Centre on Wednesday.
Over 45 pupils from several
schools competed against each other and took part in vault and floor events, with the scores totalled up for final positions. Gisburn Primary will be the Ribble Valley representative, and
Baxenden will represent Hynd- bum.
Gisburn won with 66.5 points
from Baxenden (65.1), Sabden (62.75), All Saints (61.5), Peel Park (59.75), West End (59.65), W Hubert’s (58.75), St Peter and
Gymnastics
Paul’s (55.8) and Sacred Heart (54.2). Roger Haythornthwaite, com
petition manager for the Hynd burn and Ribble Valley School Sport Partnerships, and Lan cashire Sport Partnership, said: “Once again the Year 3 and 4 gymnastics competition was an exceptional standard, with a win ning school from their own clus ter competitions, made for a real ly exciting competition. “With over 100 parents and
teachers watching there was great excitement in the room, with the pupils seeming to really enjoy competing in both floor and vault routines.”
ON FORM: Garry Davies was a Winter title winner
