TUNNING collections designed by two ■ talented Clitheroe fashion students have taken to the catwalk.
Lucie Anderton (22) and Sarah Elizabeth Mason (24) are set to embark on exciting
I careers as designers having graduated I this summer.
Lucie's fascinating lingerie collection
was showcased at De Montfort University's spectacular end-of-year catwalk show for the fashion industry. : The 22-year-old, who is a former pupil
of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and is pictured top left, designed the garments as
her.final assignment for the BA (Hons) contour fashion degree at the Leicester-based university on the theme of "Dirty
Pretty.Thing".
by Faiza A Afzaal ® S 4 I Inspired by natural colours and textures, Lucie chose to
bring this to light by revisiting the early 1990s grunge look and developing it into a new glam and edgy take on the original. Fabrics such as silk satin, chiffon and dupion sit alongside metallic fastenings and trims in her collection, which was showcased in front of key industry names including Mio Destine, Ruby Pink and Panache Lingerie. Commenting on her designs, Lucie said: "Sexiness is no
longer at odds with comfort and practicality as they have come together in unison for'Dirty Pretty Thing'. :,: !'l chose to use the colour theme of chartreuse green, kakhi,
taupe and mushroom grey with accents of antique gold and neutral, to accentuate the conflicts between organic and
urban forms. A lot of time and dedication goes into the making of a collection, so it was really rewarding to see my final work get such a good reaction at the catwalk show." The Contour Fashion course at DMU is more than 60 years
old and is claimed to be the longest-serving specialist lingerie, body and swimwear degree course in the world. Since graduating Lucie has been employed as an assistant
designer at Quantum Lingerie, which is a supplier to Marks and Spencer. "The job so far has given me a much better understanding
of the fashion industry and has furthered my desire to work in a more senior design role where I can become immersed within the designing process," commented Lucie. Meanwhile, Sarah's collection of oversized, structured
cuffs and detachable collars worn as necklaces was showcased during the prestigious Graduate Fashion Week at Earls Court, London. Sarah, who achieved a first-class honour's degree in fashion design at the University of
Central Lancashire, received huge praise for her attractive final year collection "Lipsticks on your collar" - a chic collection inspired 1 ^ by the fun and glamour of the 1950s. A former pupil of Ribblesdale High

School Technology College, Sarah, who is pictured top right in the centre, said: "Everyone loved the show and the fabrics and accessories were sourced j on buying trips to London, Paris and Hong Kong." Sarah, who was nominated for th e '
Mulberry Accessories Award and who' also completed a year's placement at Debenhams in London, added: "I am looking for design jobs and there are a few opportunities coming my way so ^ I'm looking forward to those."
