GOALKEEPER'John Zak helped the British team win the World Football Championship for Medical Teams in South Korea.

, The CP at Pendleside Medical Practice was p a r t of the squad th'at took the title, with Dr Zak competing in the tournament for the


■ fourth time, having pre­ viously travelled to Ger­ many, Australia and Lithuania. The competition was


played out over a week, with eight teams compet­ ing in the Seoul Clympic Stadium, used in the 1988 Games. As well as the football,


teams are involved in an educational programme in sports science and health, and the tourna­ ment promotes friend­ ship between doctors from around the globe. Dr Zak plays in the


team with Dr Paul Fourie, a CP who works in Blackburn. : The other squad mem­


bers are a mixture of CPs and hospital doctors in from around the UK. This year they over­


came Lithuania, Spain and South Korea, to


: meet Brazil in the final, who they beat 3-1.. : Next year’s event is to


be hosted by the Austrian team in Innsbruck.,
