WADDINGTON Reserves made it four wins from four against Horton. Waddington started very brightly and could have been 3-0 up after 15 minutes, but against the run of play, Horton opened the scoring when a right wing cross took a deflection, and despite the efforts of keeper Akeroyd, the ball found its way into the net. Soon after Lord was upended in the box, and Ersahin dis patched the penalty with ease. Waddington then took the lead when a direct free kick was parried by the keeper
straight to Avci, who audaciously chipped the keeper. With the added confidence of the lead,
Waddington moved up a gear and made it 4-1 at half-time through a solo effort from Lord and a lovely finish by Darnell. After the break. Lord added his sec
ond, calmly finding the net from a tight angle, and Sieczkowski made it six from the penalty spot. Horton scored with a fierce shot, but
Ersahin scored the seventh after a lovely through ball from Avci. Horton finished off the scoring with the last kick of the game.
CLITHEROE Wolves Under 10s began the new league campaign in considerable style, with an emphatic 13-0 victory over Mill Hill Red on Sunday morning. The yoimgsters played some open,
attacking football, and took the lead after 10 minutes. Frankie Jackson scored what will be a contender for goal-of-the-season to double the lead shortly afterwards, controlling the ball before smashing an unstoppable shot past the Mill Hill keeper. The game was effectively over as a
contest as Wolves added four further goals before half-time.
The second period saw no respite for
the home team, and Clitheroe finished the match playing some terrific foot ball. Scorers on the day were Frankie Jackson (4), Owen Jackson (4) Char lie Dewhurst (2), Juddson Hickey (2), and Elliot Watson. Great Harwood Rovers . 2 Clitheroe Wolves U13s . . 4 THE Wolves netted four first half goals to win their first game of the sea son. On the mark were Jack Mercer,
Brandon Garside, James McCotter and Edward Drake, who scored from an acute angle.

Rossendale 2nds ...........21 Clitheroe RUFC............. 10
CLITHEROE opened their league campaign with a loss, but stuck to their task well, and but for a few dubious decisions they might well have sneaked a win against sizeable and aggressive opponents. With only two minutes gone,
Rossendale conceded a penalty within kickable range, but Lafranceschina pushed it wide. Poor tackling then allowed the oppo
sition fly half to waltz through, and after quick recycling, the ball moved left, where the full back crossed the whitewash. The conversion followed to make it 7-0 to the home team. Clitheroe were doing well in the line-
and following a great set move from a lineout, well taken by forward convert Lafranceschina, James Dickinson streaked to the comer to make it 7-5. A penalty conceded not long after
gave Rossendale a golden chance to extend their lead, and that they did to make it 10-5 at half-time. Clitheroe started the second half well and exhibited great passing skills at
outs and looked dangerous with ball in hand but were being pummelled at scrum time. After 30 minutes the pressure told,
HIGH JUMP: Line-out action from Clitheroe’s game against Rossendale
close range with forwards and backs supporting well. On 55 minutes, a penalty allowed
Clitheroe to make good yardage into the Dale half, and more superb inter play resulted, in a fine pass to Dickin son, who doubled his tally with a fine finish.
This time the kick was successful and
to once again take the lead, 13-12, and the hosts extended their lead with a try in the right comer. A close-range penal ty took Rossendale into an imassailable lead, and the game ended with the score at 21-10. Clitheroe Cavaliers . . . . 39 Colne and Nelson 2nds . 17 THE Cavaliers started with a win against historically strong opposition. Full back Declan Fitzhenry drew
the score now stood a t 12-10 to Clitheroe. Rossendale duly converted a penalty
first blood with a penalty, before new hooker Aaron Atkinson scored the first try of the game. From a well-worked line out he bulldozed his way over from close quarters, with Fitzhenry on hand to get the conversion. Midway through the half, Colne

another couple of tries to put them back in contention. It took two more tries from the Cava
the home side, with Piercy getting his first tiy in his first senior game. However, Colne managed to score
imposed themselves for a period which saw them come away with a converted try, the final score of the half. The second half started brightly for
The next came from Atkinson, as he

the conversion. Clitheroe Senior Colts . . 10 Elsmre Port Senior Colts 19 ALL the effort put in behind the scenes paid off when Clitheroe fielded their first Senior Colts in over three years. Captain Sam Thomber led a strong
team made up of players from CRGS and local colleges, but even though some of them had not even played together before, they performed with great heart. Only 10 minutes into the game,
scnun half Jack McKenna wriggled his way though, although the conversion was missed. Ellesmere Port hit straight back, and
they had a stroke of. luck when a kick to nowhere bounced well for the winger, and he expertly kicked on to score in the left comer. Clitheroe then showed great
resilience, and young prop Joe Shorrock powered over from short range to go into the break trailling 10-12. After the break, Ellesmere Port
camped out on the home line, eventual ly managing to squeeze themselves over for a try. The conversion took the score to 19-
10, but despite defeat, Clitheroe could take a lot of positives.
Ideal start
Clarence.....................2 Dog Inn......................3 DOG Inn began their Harry Dewhurst Memo rial League campaign with a 3-2 win over Clarence at Haslingden. The Whalley side fea
tured five debutants in their sta r tin g line-up and, despite a promising start, found themselves a goal down after 20 min utes. They equalised shortly
before half-time, however, when centre-back and man-of-the-match Toby Barker headed home a pinpoint cross from left back Liam Anderson. Dog took the lead
early in the second half when Ollie Steele fired home from just outside the penalty area. Dog missed umpteen
chances to make the game safe, and looked as if they were going to pay for their profligacy when a rash challenge allowed Clarence to equalise from the penalty spot in the 85th minute. However, Dog rallied
again, and captain Liam Hill-Parker fired home from close range to secure a deserved win. • THE Harry
Dewhurst Memorial League is urgently look ing to add to its existing pool of referees. League matches take
place on Sunday morn ings in Hyhdburn and Rossendale, with the ref erees’ fees £20 per game. For more details, con
tact league secretary Peter Tate on 01204 468 718.
