Chris is Valley s new police chief
A FORMER pupil of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and an award-winning police officer is the new inspector at Clitheroe. Insp. Chris Saville (44), pic--
tured, replaces Insp. Jenny Coul- ston and says he wants to make a positive difference to residents’ lives. The father-of-two, who has
worked in higher crime areas such as Blackburn and Accrington, said: “I am thrilled to be working in the Ribble 'Valley and am look ing forward to the new challenges that lie ahead. “I have worked in many differ
ent places throughout Lancashire including Bumiey, Blackburn and Accrington, but have also worked in more rural areas, such as West Craven, and I appreciate the dif ferent challenges these areas pose.”
Experience
demands considerable police experience and he has plenty of it. He attended Hutton Grammar School until the age of 14, when he and his family moved to Clitheroe. He then attended the town’s grammar school for boys. He completed a degree at Hull
Insp. Saville.’s new post
University after which he joined the police as a fresh-faced bobby aged 21.
Insp. Saville spent the first five
years of his career in the Skelmersdale area where he had a variety of roles including spend ing time on CID and the sub-dm- sional crime car team, and as a trainer for new officers. He passed his sergeant’s exams and in 1994 moved to work in
Accrington and Great Harwood. He speedily rose through the ranks and was promoted to a sergeant’s post in Burnley in 1996. He received a Chief Constable’s
Commendation for bravery when he foiled an armed robbery in Accrington in 1996. Despite hav ing a gun thrust in his stomach, he remained focused in his efforts to arrest the offenders, who were later given considerable prison sentences. He spent the next nine years in
the Pennine Division, where he covered the areas of Bumiey, Nel son, Colne, Barnoldswick and Earby. During this time he also acted as a geographic inspector at Colne for six months. He received another Chief Con
stable’s Commendation for his exceptional crime-busting work in Bamoldswick, which led to a con siderable reduction in crime - 80% in burglary and 25% overall reduction in all crime. In 2005 he was promoted to divisional operational inspector in
Blackburn and two years later he accepted the role of geographic inspector in Hyndbum. With the Ribble Valley contin
uing to be the safest place to live in the North West and the third safest to live in Great Britain, Insp. Saville is looking forward to working with his policing team, partner authorities and members of the public to ensure it stays that way. “I t ’s about pro'viding the best
service possible to the people of the Ribble Valley and my inten tion is to make the borough an even safer place to live. “I’m really looking forward to
targeting issues around quality of life, to damage and anti-social beha'viour. However, I need the help of the public who have con cerns about crime and anti-social behaviour to come forward and speak to us.” If you have information about
criminal activity in your area, call police on 01200 443344 or the free and confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
