CLITHEROE are out to attack Saturday^ home game with gusto and Carl Garner wants to see that support
matched on the terraces. The chairman has issued a rah
lying cry to fans to get behind their, club as managers Neil Reynolds and Pete Smith look to steer the Blues away from relega tion, with some big changes expected against Ossett Albion (kick-off 3 pm.). There have been no half measures
at Shawbrid^ this week, as after three successive league defeats md rix games without a win, something needed to be done, and the club has gone all out to make it happen, sep arate the wheat from the chaff and bring in some much-needed goalscoring ability.
Danny Toronczak and Greg
Brickell are two of the UniBond First Diviaonb most potent strikers in recent seasons, and after discus- aons this wedc, both are expected to feature on Saturday. Toronczak will be up agmnst his
old side, as he was the leagued lead ing goalscorer three seasons ago with Ossett, and he scored 29 g o ^
last term for the South Yorkshire side. Brickell has had a season away
from the UniBond with his locd West Lancashire League ade Cop- pull United, but scored 13 goals in 18 starts for Bamb«r Bridge the sea son b^ore last. These captures will mean depa^
tures, and there is a possibility of one or two other new faces too, but
Garner smd the committee have given thdr full backing to Reynolds and Smith to keep the side in the UniBond First DMon, at all cos^ The chairman said: “Some big
decisions about certm players need to be made, as it is imperative lor the team now that everyone gets together and we start collecting pdnts. “Basically our short-term goal is

four or five games knows that there are problems, the biggest bdng that we just don’t look like scoring. “We’re all aware of that, Nal and

another the season hasn’t turned out the way we had hoped, but itb not too late to turn it around. “We’re backing them to the hilt
and I want the supporters of CliUi»oe FC to do the same.’’

Poor run continues at Giant Axe
Lancaster City..........2 ClUheroe . . . . . . . . . . 0 CLITHEROE’S poor start to 2008 continued at Lancaster City’s Giant Axe on Saturday, as two first-half strikes sealed the
. Blues’ third straight defeat of the year and sixth game without a win. Plus a rash, over the top
tackle by second-half sub stitute Adam Koslowski ensured the side finished another game with less than 11 men. Success away from Shawbridge has b ^ limit ed to just one victory in the UniBond First Divi- mon North at Mossley, and
cup wins at Padiham and Lsmcaster. And, the fact the host
side hadn't conceded a goal in six games didn't aiigur well. There was to be no
repeat of October's 2-1 FA Trophy win over the Dolly Blues in this league encounter, as Lancaster's good use oif wingers Ryan- Zico Black and Neil Mar shall had Clitheroe on the W k foot for the opening 12 minutes, before Mark Jackson found the back of the net. New centre half
Jonathan Smith won everything in the air
thromintb the Blues box, and.even:g6t forward to get his head on the ball at the other end, but a ball at ground level from Mar- ^all on the left wing was dummied by Dave F^ter and allowed to run free in the middle of the box for Jackson to tuck home under Paul Horridge. Lancaster dominated
the half and saw further efforts flash over and wide, with Clitheroe's best efforts limited to off-target half chances. One such attack insti
gated by a Craig Sargeson cross had just broken down in front of goal before Lan
caster latched onto the resulting goal kick to net thdr second of the game. Three passes and the
ball was in the back of the. net, Jackson threading through strike partner Dave Poster on the stroke of half-time - end making it quite clear why both players were recent Cli^eroe transfer targets. Changes were made in
the second half as new signing Arrom Hussain replac^ the injured Neil Zarac to take, up the left wing, and Koslowski replaced Chris Middleton at right back. It did little to stop Lan

as bad again this season, and if we get some firm wickets he can get among the runs and help us push on from last season's improvement. “ And if the local lads
