26 Clitheroe Advertiser &Times, Thursday, January 24th, 2008 , ___ . ____ Farming candidates
FARMERS from the Ribble Valley have the opportunity to hear from all four candi dates for vice-president of the National Farmers Union (NFU) when hustings are
held at Skipton Auction Mart next Thurs day. Among the four is Downham farmer
Thomas Binns, who is currently chairman of the NFU’s national livestock board. His opponents are current vice-president Paul Temple, from East Yorkshire, Alastair Mackintosh from Cumbria and Adam Quinney from Wanvickshire. In preparation for the election next
month, all four candidates will take part in the Skipton hustings due to begin at 7-30 p.m. The event is open to all NFU farmer and grower members and is designed to serve the NFU’s North East and North West regions. NFU President Peter Kendall and Deputy President Meurig Raymond are re-elected to their posts unopposed, however the vice-president’s position is keenly contested. The election will take place immediately after the NFU confer ence on Tuesday, February 19th, at the Hilton London Metropole. The successful candidate will hold the position for a two- year period until 2010.

will be used for activities by the youths of the area. He said: “Young people have already taken part in mountain Diking, quad biking, foot ball and a project relating to helping animals at the Lords House farm. “They also attended a Christmas Panto at Blackpool and trips are
planned to go to a Chinese cultural evening in Blackburn. Other activities being planned are
fishing, caving, ghyll scrambling, summer camps, ten pin bowling, a music project and many other healthy, challenging and positive pursuits.” Should anyone wish to
help with the running of this new organisation or would like their family to be involved, please contact Ms Diane Parker at 21 Seedall Avenue, Clitheroe. Our picture shows Mr Diack
