THE busy beer garden at the Tillotsons Arms for the sausage festival (s)
BLAZING summer sunshine wasn’t the only reason th a t Chipping enjoyed a sizzling
Saturday. ■The village’s second annual
Sausage Festival, held a t the Tillotson's Arms, was a “fryaway”
success.— People began arriving soon after
2 p.m., many enjoying sitting in the beer garden, chatting with friends and enjoying a cool drink in the long-awaited summer sun. . ■ i Children took great delight in
lobbing wet sponges a t men who. volunteered to be put in the stocks, “(jurly”, the landlord of the Tillot- soiis, was by far the most- popular

were extremely popular, as was the face painting by Hannah McEwan ■ and Ashleigh Noblett.
... ; The arrival-of the “Deepdale
Duck” - the'mascot of Preston North End - was greeted -with- great enthusiasm, especially by the children.- He was very soon dripping wet,
having been chased by the young sters with water pistols. This was
'taken in very good part by “DD” : - in fact you could say it was water off a duck’s back! ■ ■ , ■He enjoyed himself immensely,
promising to come again nrat year. The sausage-making cbmpeti-

- The award for Best Sausage was : won by the St .Thomas's Centre, in

'Oliver!' leaves them all wanting more
AUDIENCES were left crying out for more when St Leonard’s Primary School, Langho, staged a-magnificent produc tion of “Oliver!” > Clitheroe’s new arts centre. The
Grand, staged the final perform ance of the show, with two previ ous performances staged a t the school. All the cast of more than 130 children performed superbly, with
;strong performances from all the main characters. April Wells was Oliver, Ynez
Taylor-Wood was th e Artful Dodger, Grace Davies was Nancy, Matthew Tattersall was Bill
Sykes and James Holt was Fagin. A humorous depiction of Mr Bumble was given by Mollie Bal- shaw with Widow Corney played by Felicity Bulless. The singing and dancing was
outstanding, with memorable per formances by all the soloists and, in particular, Grace's performance of Nancy’s tear-jerking ballad “As Long as He Needs Me”. . The enthusiasm and hard work
by the children and staff helped to make it a truly professional pro duction which received heartfelt appreciation from all who saw it, and a standing ovation from the audience a t the Grand. Head
teacher Mrs Anne Pickup said: “I t was wonderful to see so much nat ural talent and enthusiasm and I was delighted to give the children the opportunity to perform at the Grand and receive such an appre ciative response from the audi ence.” One of the children's grandpar
ents commented: “ I have seen many productions of many things, bu t th a t was moving and enthralling and I loved every minute of it.” - Pictured are cast members dur
