Wolves celebrate historic double

CLITHEROE Wolves Under 14s completed a mag nificent season when victory in their last match secured the Warburtons League Under 14s Championship, to add to the Dolphin Bakery Cup secured earlier in May. In the nine-month season,

the team won 28 out of 30 league games and lost only one, in addition to all their cup victories. To secure the double is a

just reward for all the hard work, training and commit ment shown by the squad. All the boys have been

absolutely superb through out the season. The fantastic achieve

ment is also richly deserved for their manager for the past eight years, Ian Charl ton. Throughout the period,

he has willingly given of his time to help further the ambitions of the players, and without him and his assistant, Marie Haworth,

the boys would not have had the challenges, enjoyment and success they have now achieved. Colne.............................0 1 Voices Under 14s . . . .12 FACING a depleted opposi tion in their penultimate game of the season, Wolves moved to within touching distance of the champi onship to add to the cup vic tory they secured two weeks ago. With Colne unable to field

a full team due to other commitments, the Wolves ran out easy victors and boosted their goal difference to such an extent th a t a draw in their last game would secure them the War- burton's League title. Goals were scored by eight

different members of the team, including a penalty from keeper Dave McGrath, with Max Harrison scoring the highest number with four second half goals.

Barnoldswick Barons .1 Clilheroe Wolves........ 1 WITH their 28th League victory of the season, the Wolves were deservedly crowned champions. In a generous gesture, the

team were applauded from the pitch by their opponents before receiving the congrat ulations of parents and friends. The team started nerv

ously and with a goal-less first half, the tension remained high. When Barnoldswick took

the lead from a free kick and with their goalkeeper per forming brilliantly, the title looked to be slipping away. However, with 15 minutes

left, Sam Langford forced the ball home and the Wolves visibly relaxed. ' Following an own goal

and a Josh Charlton header, a long shot from Mick Clarkson sealed the victory. The celebrations could

begin!

National Division in 2006, Adam Lake land’s side ended their first-ever season of top-flight football, which included an his toric run to the semi-final stage of the FA Cup, with a fourth place league finish. Contact Gemma Donnelly (01254

CLITHEROE archer Barbara Morriss added bronze to the gold medal she took earlier in the year at the sport's second national annual competition held at the weekend. The Read-based Oakleaf

Bowmen competitor faced a stern challenge at the 3D Championship in Tavis tock, Devon. She was up against just

under 500 other archers in what proved to be a very close finish between the top three. Barbara scored 30 less

than the silver medalist, who in turn was 32 points behind the winner, and was pleased with her effort. She said: "I was quite

chuffed with that as there were more competitors than usual. “I got silver three years

ago the first year I compet ed bu t I was more than happy with bronze. "The 3D was completely

different to the Scottish National Championship." Barbara won the presti

gious Scottish National Championship at the two- day Easter tournament in Dumfries and Galloway At the same event her

partner, Peter, the current United Kingdowm Nation al Champion, won the
